Bottle: As black as ink with ruby spots, small creamy and lacy off-white head, small hints of tobacco and leather in the mainly roasty-fruity (almost a bit smoky) nose; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light bodied and smooth; lingering soft coffeeish-fruity finish with a nice balancing malty bitterness. Good, good.....

(bottle) Black colour with a beige and short foamy head. Roasty and slightly leathery malty aroma with notes of dark chocolate and coffee/espresso. Mildly roasty bitter flavour with a rounded level of sweetness, light bodied with a soft carbonation. Roasty malt-character, primarily with notes of dark chocolate and a touch of coffee and a tinge of leather; moderately dry and roasty bitter finish with notes of choco and coffee in the aftertaste. 24.IV.12

500ml brown bottle: My cap said best before end of Aug 09, it was consummed in July 09. Poured into my vase shaped ’Old Speckled Hen’ pint glass. I am drinking this as I review. One of the blackest beers I’ve ever had, even under a strong light source it remained black around the edges. A thin tanned head soon turned into a wisp and collar. If you don’t like coffee I doubt you’ll have bought this because the name gives away what it is all about. Rich coffee bean aroma and a dry, unsweetened coffee bean taste was as far as I got really. The coffee flavours are so overpowering nothing else can get through. The label suggests it is ideal after a meal, can’t argue against that, wish I’d read the label before opening the bottle, I’m eating later. The richness in the smell and initial taste doesn’t last through the mouthfeel. It isn’t weak or watery in any way, but it isn’t a cappuccino either. I suppose it does give you a sharp lift like a real Expresso can at times, but it wasn’t ’My Cup of Tea’. Interesting and it doesn’t pretend to be anything but a coffee tasting beer, which it certainly is.

Bottle. Dark brown with big beige head. Aroma is malt, light roasted malts, chocolate and caramel. Flavour is malt, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, espresso, medium bitter, hops, little sweet and a little watery.

Bottle. Creamy lightbrown excellent mostly lasting head. Black colour. Moderate malty and light hopy aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Coffee too dominating. Average light bitter finish. Oily palate. Not my favorite.

Bottle @ Cockney pub. Huge tan head with excellent duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are coffee, roast malt, chocolate and hops. Strong taste but watery palate. Easy drinkable.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Dark pour with beige head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Flavour overwhelmed by coffee and a lasting bitterness.

50cl bottle shared with Kermis. Thin off white head. Chocolate aroma. Clear chocolate pour. Strong coffee taste. Very nice

Bottle 500ml.Clear dark red brown colour with a average to large, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, coffee, espresso, light chocolate. Flavour is light heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a long duration, chocolate sweet, roasted - coffee bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120113]

0.5l bottle shared with RuneStumo @ Schoukjelleren, Oslo. This is a clear deep deep red beer almost brown with a nice light fluffy heavy lacing khaki head. The aroma has lots of dry espresso-powder tones, really dominating actually, and some light smoky-hints mixed with dry dark chocolate. It has a soft carbonation level, light to medium-bodied and a smooth light oily to watery mouthfeel. Nice espresso tones in the flavor with both thin chocolate and thin coffee notes. Ends dryish with a lasting espresso/light chocolate and licorice aftertaste. Quite nice, perhaps it had deserved a bit more body.
