A black beer brewed with roasted barley malt and challenger hops. Then freshly ground Arabica coffee beans, blended especially for Dark Star, are added to the copper for a few minutes after the boil to provide a rich and complementary coffee aroma. NOT EVERYONE’S CUP OF TEA!

Bottled (thanks laiti!). Pitch black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is a lot of roasted espresso coffee along with mild chocolate and roasted malts. Flavour is espresso coffee, chocolate, some roasted malts, liquorice and mild ashy notes.

Bottle. Almost black beer with beautifu, beige head. Aroma is roasted, black coffee and some chalky dry sourness: surprisingly, rich aroma. Taste is roasted and dry, some dark and concentrated coffee; slightly too simple and roasted, almost burned taste. Smooth and medium bodied to drink. Nice aroma, but too simple beer for me; propably enjoyable for people who likes roastiness.

Bottle from K-Supermarket, Kamppi, Helsinki. Dark brown with a nice, creamy tan head. Descent aroma of roasted malt and coffee. The taste was good, with quite a lot of coffee, roasted malt and some ash. Bitter finish. A good beer but I wonder how it would have tasted with more alcohol?

50cl bottle. Pours a beautiful opaque black with a creamy beige head - a substantial amount of the head hangs around for most of the beer. The nose has freshly ground coffee and some nuttiness. The taste has more of the same. The palate is rich in structure and it has a very rich texture that just slowly fades at the end. Overall, this is a great experience. Great appearance and palate, in particular.

Pours black with a large, light tan head.Nose show overwhelming chilli/capsicum character... wierd. Underneath is dark chocolate malt.Flavours include unroasted coffee, capsicum and a little roasty character.Rather light body and carbonation.

27/05/2011 Brasserie 4:20 (cask).

(Bottle, 0.5 l, from K Supermarket Kamppi, 20110526) The beer poured quite black. Its head was small and white with brown shading. Aroma had coffee, sweetness and roasted malts. Palate was medium bodied and oily with medium carbonation. Flavours were coffee, roasted malts, hops, ash and bitterness. Aftertaste had coffee and bitterness. The coffee hid the other flavours and scents too much. Still a flawless brew.
