Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.

Poured from a can dated June 23, 2015. Aroma is super grapefruit forward with a sweet juiciness to it. Some faint pale cracker malt notes and a light hop resin note. Pours a clear, golden orange with a medium sized, medium thick white head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges where it lingers. Moderate lacing and small legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a medium light pale cracker malt note. Medium high bitterness with a light alcohol spice. Moderate hop flavors with some citrus and a light resin note. Moderately strong grapefruit notes, but less than in the aroma. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice grapefruit forward IPA with some juiciness to it. Pale malt notes and fairly dry. Grapefruit isn’t my favorite hop flavor, but this is pretty good.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/19/2015. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, honey, light caramel, and floral/grassy earthiness. Incredible aromas with fantastic complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops, grapefruit peel, and light-moderate malt notes; with great strength. Taste of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, honey, light caramel, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, pine, honey, light caramel, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops, grapefruit peel, and light-moderate malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderately crisp/sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an incredible citrus spiced IPA style. All around fantastic complexity and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops, grapefruit peel, and light-moderate malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

355ml bottle from Bier-Deluxe

Bottled 15/01/15 :( - Pours golden orange with a smooth white head. Aroma of tart grapefruit, citrus, pine, resin and grassy hops. Taste is hoppy, grassy and piney with loads of resin and some tart grapefruit. Finish is crisp, dry and bitter with some grassy hops, pine, resin and tart grapefruity notes. Not super fresh, but the tartness gives this a nice touch. Would love to try this one from a fresh bottle. 8-4-8-3-15 = 3.8

Re-rated on tap @ Brewdog Helsinki. Surprisingly fresh. Nice hoppy bitterness in the finish. Tasty.

35,5 cl bottle @ Sankt Hans Tasting, UlfborgAroma has, surprisingly lots of tart and real grapefruit tones. Feels like a grapefruit lemonade. Also some caramelly malty tones in the background. Flavour has strong grapefruit tones, grapefruity hops and some caramelly malt. Overall rather refreshing one but worse than the original Sculpin.

Pours slightly hazy deep golden with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, lots of red grapefruit and citrus. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long grapefruit, pine and citrus finish. Very nice but I actually prefer regular Sculpin.
