Can. Aroma of deliciously fresh hop, pineapple, mango, tropical fruit and grapefruit. Taste has fresh hops, mild pine, grapefruit, caramel and a bitter finish. Very nice.

355ml bottle bought at Vinmonopolet Langnes. A remaining, bubbly, pearl white head to a bright golden body. Solid lacing. Good looking, indeed. Inviting aroma of floral hops and citrus. The taste character includes grapefruit and juicy malts with the dry bitterness of citrus peels to a lingering finish. Smooth on the swallow. Super refreshing (tasted together with the pineapple version, Tromsø 26.08.2016).

Fra flaske på Cardinal, sesongstart på Mandag i annen, aug-16: den fjerde fra Ballast Point denne kvelden, i et fint sammensatt program. Klar gylden med flott skum. Grapefrukt er i vinden for tiden, men denne når ikke helt frem i teten, til det er grapefruktpreget for beskjedent. Helhetsinntrykket blir for likt utallige andre, ipa eller apa. God og lettdrikkelig er den, men for 7% blir det litt tamt. Jeg foretrakk Pineapple Sculpin, som vi hadde rett før denne.

Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours hazy amber with white head. Aroma of grapefruit, pine needles, some caramel. Tastes bitter with some sweetness, bitter finish, dry mouth feel.

Flaske 355ml fra Vinmonopolet Tromsø - Langnes. Varm gylden. Middels høyt luftig skum som daler sakte. Lett syrlig fruktaroma. Smaken det samme. Blir tørr etter hvert. Knusktørr ettersmak av tørket frukt.

355 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 7.0%. Deep golden colour, large white head. Aroma of grapefruit and pine. The flavour is distinctly hoppy throughout, like the "normal" Sculpin, but with the grapefruity and piney notes from the hops enhanced by added grapefruit. Good stuff.

Acclaimed variation on Ballast Point’s classic Sculpin, with grapefruit actually added to enhance the grapefruity hop character - very curious about this. Moussy, egg-white, lightly lacing head, breaking here and there but still retaining well, over a deep and warm, clear ’old gold’ coloured beer with calm sparkling. Aroma of grapefruit zest and yellow grapefruit flesh but perhaps a bit less exuberantly so than I had expected, biscuit, dried mango, moldy orange peel, ’parsley-like’ iron, lots of minerals, lemongrass, green banana peel, pink pepper, dusty dried flowers, yellow kiwi, old paper, dried pumpkin meat (probably just the grapefruit though), old apples. Crisp and very refreshing onset, nice play of sweetish dried mango, cedar needles, baked banana and yellow plum on the one hand and sourish unripe kiwi and lots of grapefruit peel on the other hand, minerally aspects, smooth and supple body (does not feel like 7% ABV, actually), spritzy but ’refined’ carbonation. The supple, lightly bready maltiness has a slight biscuity sweetishness to it making it all the more pleasant, but is overcome by hop bitterness at an early stage, and this hop bitterness grows in intensity as expected from the style; ends in a resinous, notably spicy (peppery) character drying the finish completely though a light juiciness manages to get through. Retronasally, all the lovely American hop aromas of citrus peel, light pine and exotic pepper blend with actual pink grapefruit juice sensations - making it more ’juicy’, more rounded and, in all, more appetizing. This bottle may be a tad too old to completely get the grapefruit experience, but it is certainly there, adding tonic water-like bitterness to an already very hop bitter ale. Another lovely Ballast Point beer, regardless of the question that they cannot be considered ’craft’ anymore now that they are a part of the Constellation chain. I, for one, still love their beers, including this beauty, which brings warmth and comfort to the palate as well as fraîcheur and seductive rotundity.
