Our Grapefruit Sculpin is the latest take on our signature IPA. Some may say there are few ways to improve Sculpin’s unique flavor, but the tart freshness of grapefruit perfectly complements our IPA’s citrusy hop character. Grapefruit’s a winter fruit, but this easy-drinking ale tastes like summer.

Single can from Trader Joe’s. Unlike the fruity nose of the Pineapple Sculpin, this beer let loose an assault of hops that hold mostly pine, but then there’s a citrus backing that could be hops, could be grapefruit. Same light golden malt color as their regular IPA. Taste is still the big hoppy punch of their regular Sculpin. The grapefruit juice note does make itself known about halfway in. Just an extra touch that adds to the citrus note of this Ballast Point hop bomb.

Bottle. Pours clear dark orange with large foamy white head, orange peel aroma, low carbonation lightly bitter grapefruit taste, thin body, long bitter grapefruit finish. Very well balanced and tasty IPA.

Pours a classic clear gold with all sorts of foam and head retention.
Huge grapefruit nose that definitely leans towards the hoppy citrus side but I can’t help but feel it is a contrived thing going on. Did they just squirt grapefruit juice in each and every bottle? They couldn’t have; I get that.
As contrived as I thought the smell was, I feel the exact same way aboot the taste. Beneath the what I feel is pure grapefruit juice, I do get the base IPA, but even that is not up to snuff anymore after all of the great IPAs I have had since then. The juice leaves me trembling. That’s me.
Great mouthfeel.
Not for me but like I said. ..that’s me. You like? Good for you!

A tasty IPA that doesn't put the hop on a pedestal.

Bottle at G&M's in SD. Clear deep ruby-amber pour with dissipating white head. Aroma is grapefruit rind and pith - quite pronounced - with some citrus hops. Taste follows. Good citrusy bitterness and grapefruit really comes though. Again, pith and rind more than fruit, in a nice way. Very bitter - lasts and lasts.

35,5cl bottle from a trade with Cunningham - thanks a lot! Pours clear deep golden with a lasting, white head. Rather hoppy aroma with a somewhat strange grapefruity note, at least it seems at first. Feels a bit artificial on the nose, but the flavour is really nice and natural. Moderate to medium sweet with citrus certainly dominating the flavour and a rather decent, but balanced bitterness. Tasty and quite delicious!

Bottle shared, massive thanks to Santa bytemesis. Clear dark golden with a bit small white head. Lots of grapefruit up front, grapefruit candy, lime, lemon, soft mineral water, a bit of caramel, brown sugar, grassy. Under medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with a bit slick feel. Nice one.
