A hellaciously herbaceous collaboration of flavor. Collaborators: Sam Calagione, President & Founder, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery / Bill Covaleski, President & Co-founder, Victory Brewing Co. / Greg Koch, CEO & Co-founder, Stone Brewing

This saison has been infused with a herbaceous blend of Stone Farms and locally harvested sage, lemon thyme, rosemary and parsley and dry-hopped with Citra hops for a refreshing finish. First brewed in 2010, this citrusy farmhouse ale was named Saison du BUFF in tribute to the ad hoc coalition that Sam (Dogfish Head), Bill (Victory) and Greg (Stone) formed in 2003. Called Brewers United for Freedom of Flavor (BUFF), it was their way to show the beer industry that they were banding together to make room on the shelf for craft beer. Six years later this farm-to-kettle beer still boasts the use of freshly picked local herbs as well as Citra and Centennial hops to infuse crisp, savory, mouthwatering flavors.

355ml bottle @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm

Pours clear yellowish orange with a tiny head. Strong fruity and spicy aroma with notes of herbal hops, apricose, berries and citrus. Taste is zingy and fruity with some herbs, spicy apricose, tart berries and sweetness. Finish is sweet and fruity with a lot of herbs, apricose and hints of spices. Okay, but the fruit overload is perhaps a bit over the top.

Bottle @ OT. Pours tiny hazy golden with a small white head that quickly dissipates while leaving a small trace on the glass. Smell is slightly sour, fruity and spicy with green grapes, tangerines, crackers, dry soil, juicy ripe plums, moist green herbs and hints of barnyard. Taste is slightly bitter, tiny sour, slightly fruity, spicy and herbal with crackers, dry wood, slightly dry grass, lemon zest, orange zest, overripe grapes and plums and moist green herbs. Mouthfeel is dry, tiny tart, crisp and light to medium bodied. Finish is dry, bitter and herbal with crackers, lemon zest, thyme, moist soil, dry wood and lemon balm. Very spicy and herbal. Possibly too much but manages to stay refreshing and nice.

Bottle. Complex spicy herbal floral hops aroma. Slightly hazy golden yellow with a moderate white head, nice lacing. Musty yeasty malt, lemongrass, cardamom, mint, floral citrus hops flavor. Medium body and carbonation. The herb/spice character in this is complex enough I could probably keep picking out new flavors, however the cardamom and mint notes were a little much for my taste.

Bottle. Poursva cloudy golden with a small frothy off white head leaving spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a floral hop and honey. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet hop and caramel with nice lingering bitter finish. A very impressive saison.

12 oz bottle from The Wine Castle, Ventura. Nose is musty, green Canyon Live Oak leaves (must be imitating the parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme) with background caramel and bubblegum. I guess I needed to play my Graduate album while drinking this (I saw the movie in high school). Clear yellow with a small pale yellow head. Flavor is bitter with ivy and the other spices very evident as if it was loaded with spice leaves.

12 ounce bottle. Not sure if this is correct because my bottle says 7.7% alcohol. Pours a mostly clear golden color with a medium white head. A really nice big hop and huge spicy nose, floral. A perfect medley of spices, citrus and dry earthy malts. Very clean and good.

bottle - Pours almost clear gold and bubbly with a small white head. It has a yeasty, citrus accented aroma. The flavor is refreshing with light to medium hops bitterness and sweet pale malt. It’s very good.

35,5 cl bottle @ hotel room, San Francisco
Aroma has lots of peppery spices. Also some fruits on the background. Flavour has peppery spices, some fruits and grassy Belgian hops. Too strong on spices, but not bad still.
