With the arrival of bock beer, the brewers mark the start of autumn. In the old days this was the first beer that was made after the summer with the fresh harvest of malt and hop. Hertog Jan was the first in The Netherlands who brewed Bockbier top-fermenting. This way, the flavor of the beer comes to its own better. Hertog Jan Bockbier has a pronounced full and creamy flavor, in which a slight whisp of caramel can be found.

Bottle shared at Maakun’s. Sweet toasted caramel malts, nice roasty syrup aroma, sinterklaas spices, some licorice, some chewing gum. Moderate sweet and bitter. Medium body, malty, average bit fizzy carbonation. Clinical default finish. --- Beer merged from original tick of Hertog Jan Bockbier on 09 Jan 2018 at 09:42 - Score: 6

Bottle shared thanks to sjogro. Deep mahogany with small beige head. Lovely color. Cloves, caramel, cardboard, overripe fruit, some fresh peach, marzipan, light roasted notes. Not bad, it’s a little bland but not too sweet. There’s some bitterness but it feels a bit chemical in the finish. Not great but drinkeable.
