With the arrival of bock beer, the brewers mark the start of autumn. In the old days this was the first beer that was made after the summer with the fresh harvest of malt and hop. Hertog Jan was the first in The Netherlands who brewed Bockbier top-fermenting. This way, the flavor of the beer comes to its own better. Hertog Jan Bockbier has a pronounced full and creamy flavor, in which a slight whisp of caramel can be found.

Bottle from the Netherlands, September 2011 Little bit of sweet toffee and also a touch metallic, soft in mouth, mmhh.. this is quite safe, a little dark fruity tang, little metallic in mouth, warmth from alcohol. Pours dark brown with a beige head, it’s ok. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Brown red colour, big fluffy tan head. Malty aroma, caramel, dried fruits, some roasted tones. Flavour sweet, but less sweet than some others in the genre. Malty, caramel. Body on the thin side. Dry roasted finish with some bitterness. Not bad for a bock, but I’m not the greatest fan of the genre.

Süßer, ansonsten recht trockener Malzantrunk, der schnell erheblich nachlässt. Es bleibt ein trockener und ausgedünnt wirkender Malzton, der im Mittelteil wirklich nichts zu bieten hat. Hintergründig etwas bananig, was wohl vom hier spürbaren Alkohol kommt. Im Abgang immerhin etwas röstig, dennoch recht schwach. Das Bier wird hier noch trockener, was sich keiensfalls positiv auswirkt. 11/7/8/7/9/8
