A Loerik is a blend of Lambics intented to be Gueuze.
However, for some reason, the beer takes more than it's time to end his fermentation.
When we make a Gueuze blend the beer needs months before it is ready for sale.
For the Loerik, the fermentation is going so slowly that years are
necessary to obtain the same result.
We can't explain why and, naturally, we can't produce intentionaly such a beer. A Loerik is always the result of a coincidence with a beautiful result at the end!

1998 bottle. Pours a hazy-orange liquid with white head. The aroma is sweet and fruity for a gueuze, with notes of cork. Taste is sour at first, then sweet of apples and candy. This is a relaxed and easy to drink guezue that shows some similarities with a sour saison.

75 cL bottle, Lövenlund your a star and pain in the ... Thanks for this! Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Dry and slight fruity aroma. Wooden and brett aroma. Dry wooden, orange fruity and brett flavoured. Citric and wooden flavoured into the finish. Lovely dry and fruity smooth into the finish. Smooth wooden finish.

(Bottle 75 cl) Hazy amber golden with a small, off-white head. Soft and not overly sour aroma. Medium body with a low carbonation and an almost soft mouthfeel - not really typical for Cantillon! Plenty of horse blanket accents but surprisingly accessible for a Cantillon. 061008

Bottle 750ml. [ As Cantillon Loerik ].[ My Rating #5000 ]Bottled in 1998. [ Courtesy of Hildigöltur (Jacob)]. Unclear medium orange color with a small to average, frothy almost creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white to off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy hoppy, grapefruit, citrus tart, moderate to light heavy yeasty, barnyard, sour, tart, woody. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet, acidic and bitter with a long duration, and a dry dry finish. Body is light to medium, texture is watery, carbonation is flat to soft. Wow, what a beer ! ;o)) [20080905] 8-5-9-4-19 Bottle 750ml. shared at [ A Day To Sink All Sea Shepards tasting. ], Brussels, Belgium. [ As Cantillon Loerik ].Murky medium orange color with a small to average, fizzy, fair - virtualy none lacing, fully diminishing, white head. Aroma is moderate bread, sweet cookie, barnyard, leather, brett, minerals, cellar funk, citric notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and light acidic with a long duration, manure, minerals, light tart, light citric. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. Still very impressive and refined but not as good at i remember for previous bottles. [20160917] 8-3-9-5-18

Bottled@Akkurat. Orangeish golden colour with minor head. Aroma is acidic and sour wood with some mild notes of sour fruits. Flavour is dry acidic and sour with some mild yeast, wood and also mildly bluecheesy notes. Long sour wooden aftertaste. Really mouthdrying. Still a bit smoother than many other Cantillons.

Incredible like everything Cantillon. Thanks to Badgerben for sharing this one. Bright orange color and cloudy. Yeasty, sour aroma with brett. Delicious, full bodied sour flavor. Incredibly smooth, and perhaps the thickest gueuze I have had, and very sour. Outstanding palate, full mouthfeel. Very sour aroma and flavor, I could smell this for a long time. I have to go with the same high score as Ben on this one.

(2/26/08) Bottle at Bier Circus in Brussels. Vintage 1998. Slightly hazy orange with a medium white head that disappears rather fast. Barnyard aroma with citrus, other fruits and wood. Nice dry sour flavor with a lot of citrus - lemon, a bit of grapefruit and maybe some other fruits as well. I also sense some sweetish undertones. Medium-bodied. Great stuff.

I too never thought I would get a chance to try this, thanks for sharing. Poured yellow with a small head. Aroma is the signature acidic and sour Cantillon, no way could I tell this was almost 10 years old. Taste is nicely subdued for a Cantillon while still sour and acidic. A nice fruitiness has emerged and a nice herbal aspect to round it off. Sooo good.
