From tap at the brewpub. Dark brown to black color with off white head. Roasted malty aroma, bread, chocolate, coffee. Sweet and bitter taste like aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

[2/3/16] Draught at Triple Rock in Berkeley. Very dark brown to black. Aroma of roast, coffee, nuts. Sweetish flavor, roasty, with coffee, nuts, and a bitterish finish. Medium-bodied.

On tap at the brewery. Black / dark mahogany brown coloured pour with a lasting dirty tan head. Aroma is toasted barley, fruity berry, grape, grainy, toasted. Flavour is bitter dirty roast, light soy, some berry fruits, roasted barley. Palate is medium light bodied, slightly thin, gassy, grainy. Lingering black forest gateau.

Tap. Pours clear chestnut, medium creamy tan head, great lacing. Aroma is burned malts, ashy, coffee. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter. Medium body, a bit acidic. Decent.

On tap at Beer Revolution. Pours with a clear, lighter brown pour with a minimal tan head. Aromas are a little spicy (rye?), nutty, malty, light chocolate. Some yeast notes, light herbal hops and a bit husky. Flavors of brown sugar, malty, nutty, a bit salty and minerally. Lively bubbles, a bit weak.

Draft. A deep red beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is dominated by notes of roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, lending it a slight acidic edge, before the dry finish sets in.
