On tap @ the brewpub. Pours dark amber with infra red edges and thin tan head. The moderate aroma emits roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and mild oxidation notes. The taste has a brief pulse of black strap molasses followed by earthiness, highly roasted to burnt malts and some coffee grounds. Before the coffee really picks up steam I get mild notes of chocolate malts and the faintest oxidation note. Very light astringency leaves this beer more neutral than dry.

Draft at the brewpub (5.3%). Toasted malt aroma. Color is very dark mahogany with an intermittent tan head. Body is near medium; carbonation is mild and creamy. Very smooth. Flavor is toasted malt and a little hop. No particular notes of coffee or chocolate. Perhaps a little anise. Reasonably dry, toasted and slightly bitter finish.
