Bottle, 0.5l. ABV of 5%. Pours dark ruby body with small, short lasting white head. It actually leaves some lacing on the glass. Smell is a bit sour, malts, yeast, dark fruits, caramel. Medium body, normal to high carbonation. Soft texture. Taste is mostly sour, gurning into bitter towards the finish. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, sour cherry, slightly smoked with some alcohol bitterness. Medium finish, dry and bitter. Overall, nice brew.

Dark brown to black colored, small tan head, only a ring after a minute. Aroma is sweet caramel and some acidy must, kind of unclean. Taste moderate sweet caramel malt, chocolate, roasted malts, some fruit and yeast. Low to medium grassy and noble bitterness. Low to medium bodied, high carbonation.

28/05 A 1.5 l plastic bottle courtesy of Marko, thanks for sharing! It poured very hazy brown body with a small head. Yeasty and malty aroma, like biscuit and caramel. Balanced flavor, slightly roasted coffee with lot of biscuit and milky yeast. Medium body, shorter finish. It reminded me of these so many Slovenian brewpub dark beers. I’m sorry I rate this much less than others, they obviously changed the recipe for both their regular beers.

Draught at the brewpub.
Dark brown coloured, creamy beige Guinness like head, mild chocolate nose. Mild roasted malty aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee and toffe. Very pleasant surprise indeed.

Update:Honestly - when we first tried Kahli’s dark beer, it was an absolute stunner, rarely did a brewpub manage to pull off such a brilliant dark lager on their first try. Subsequent tastings, 5 or so years after revealed a beer that’s still good, but lacked the complexity and the body of the original, a more simple caramelly, fruity affair, so I have to lower the rates slightly - the value was still enormous when you got it at the brewpub.2007 review:0.5l bottle from the brewpub courtesy of and shared with ozujsko (thanks!) Man, I was so glad when I found out that another brewery here "dared" to make something that’s not a pale lager (or its close kin). And yeah, I was even more glad when I found out that it was actually good! It poured an opaque black body streaked with brown around the bottom of the glass (so, a really dark brown colour.. heh). Thick, creamy beigy head that went away slowly. Nice. Roasty malty nose with weak notes of coffee and chocolate. The taste was lovely but not flashy, fine, smooth, like cappucino, or like those "cappuccino" flavoured filled wafers. It’s a bit light, but in a good way. Short, roasty aftertaste. We need more beers like this one here. We can obviously produce good, even great dark beers and yet the breweries are so damn reluctant to do them. 7/4/8/4/16
