Sample @ HBF 2010. Originally rated on 9.4.2010. Decent sahti with notes of rye, juniper and malts. No carbonation, full bodied, slick mouthfeel.

Deep orange color, no head. Deep nose has a mix of bacon, banana and leather. Glueish palate. Banana, light smoke, glue, alcohol. Lingering banana-alcohol in the finish. I am not a big fan of glueish sahtis.

Draught (Helsinki Beer Festival 2010) - Shared with Doggythedog. Hazy amber in colour. Smoky aroma with ham and roasted malt. Smoky and slightly medicinal taste with ham and hints of dried fruit.

Some Finnish guy sat next to tbone and me and started talking about how this is the national drink of Finland and that we had to try it or something. The idea of a smoked sahti certainly did sound interesting to me so I did. Poured a murky apricot body. Smoked malt dominates the nose, pancetta-like, some glue and some alcohol is there too. Smokey notes persist on the lactic, typical sahti body that’s unfortunately slightly riddled with beety and carroty nose and as such isn’t all that great but the smoke saves it, making it an acceptable drink for me.
