THE BALTIC TRIANGLE, located between Stockholm-AAland-Riga holds more shipwrecks than the infamous Bermuda Triangel. The estimated number of shipwrecks in the entire Baltic Sea is more than 100 000.

KRISTALL WEISSE, the third beer in our Baltic Triangle series, isa a golden fullbodied filtered wheat beer, with tones of fruit and vanilla. Low level of bitterness gives room for berry-like hop aroma.

SS PARMA, partly owned by J.V. Wennström, grandfather of Stallhagen’s present Managing Director, participated in the great grain race from Australia to Germany in the 1930’s. Ms. Parma was at that time the biggest Finnish vessel and had the fastest time

Draught@Viking Isabella (between TKU-STO, backlog). Golden colour, small white head. Aroma is bread, grains, some wheat and mild earthyness as well. Flavour is rather same in a quite earthy and dull way.

Rather light aroma with some banana, wheat and bubblegum. Flavour is a bit thin with banana, bubblegum, some hay and hints of cardboard. Lager-like, rather hard to recognize this as a weizen. Starts to feel dry at the end of the glass. Too bad that they filtered the whole brew.

0.5l bottle at the M/S Amorella Pub. Odd that I’m the first one with a bottled rating. Golden body, small white head. Light sweetish taste. Vague taste, bit grainy, very faint and occasional bubblegum. Or am I imagining it? Dusty, yolky notes near the finish. Slightly cabbagey, very light bitterness, almost nonexistant. Might as well be a pale lager. 6 euros for this? Damn.

Clear pale amber color, small white head. Light grainy nose with hints of banana fruityness. Light bodied. Weak palate. Mainly grainy, bready malts in the flavor, some banana-wheaty notes. Short finish. I suppose that this is "just a wheat ale" and no weizen yeast is used. Quite poor Kristallweizen.

(Draught at Hilpeä Hauki, 20110715) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had grass and a hint of yeast. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, mildly grass and fruitiness, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was bitter. This reminded me of no kristallweizen. Just a poor pale lager as omhper already wrote.

Draught at Villi Wäinö, Helsinki. Lightly hazy golden, minimal head. Cidery nose. Light bodied with clean mouthfeel. No phenols, no cloves or banana. Just bland and cidery. No bitterness. More like a filtered, underhopped lager than a kristallweizen.
