A helmet and headset can’t muffle the sound of your heart pounding in your chest. Your gloved-hands infuse themselves to the wheel and won’t let go until it’s over. Your co-driver makes one final adjustment to the course and looks at you with a grin and a thumbs-up. “We are good to go.” he says. Adrenaline floods every muscle but your foot remains steady on the accelerator. The engine is roaring but soon it will sound like a swarm of ten thousand bees.
Go! Go! Go! Every turn of the wheel and every shift of the gear in sync with the flurry of your co-driver’s instructions. Nothing but a blur of green on either side. You can feel loose asphalt under the tyres being strewn in every direction as they maneuver every corner with the screech of a ‘banshee’. Nothing but dust and white smoke behind you and a certainty of victory in front of you because yours is the best time for this and every stage. At the finish line, you step slowly out your car, helmet in hand, wanting a Stag to celebrate and to quiet your mind. It’s the only beverage for a man who is both a hero and a formidable racing adversary.
Stag is a European style lager with a distinct, robust flavour and a lingering but gentle aftertaste. Both its taste and its name are indicative of what true masculinity is – unforgettable strength and character. It appeals to the male consumer who embodies these characteristics and who appreciates a beer that reminds him and everyone around him of exactly who he is.

Bottle from Asda. Golden in colour, with a moderately-sized, white, head and touch of carbonation. Aroma of sweetcorn and tired hops, with a metallic edge. Flavour was also sweet, with flabby malts, a hin of fruit and solidly bitter finish. There are worse lagers.

This 275 ml green bottle was purchased earlier today at the friendly liquor/cigar/beer store we visited in St. Kitts on a earlier trip. A local beer, we want to try what the locals produce and drink. No suitable glass available I drink from the bottle of course. A slightly skunky smell after I lift the cap. No problem, numerous beers start the same way. A drink now, barley, hops, grassy, vaguely tropical, let’s toss a palm frond in there too. Basically inoffensive, I am the better for having tried.

Bottle from Lupe Pinto. Appearance - Nose - sweetcorn and light butterscotch. Maybe it’s caramel. Taste - honey and lemon. Pale malt backdrop. Honey us the overriding note. Palate - light bodied with a creamy texture. The finish could be fresher. Overall - a bit difficult to pick it out from other international pale lagers.

330ml bottle from Tesco - Pale straw with a fizzy white head. Nose is grainy with a touch of earth. Rather undistinguished flavours... blah, blah Caribbean pale lager.

Better than regular Carib. Plus, it’s a man’s beer, like the advert says. Skunky. Decent heat killer like a wet towel. Bottle at a bar in Port of Spain.

Bottle from the African and Caribbean food store on Wood Street in Huddersfield. Blonde with both a very thin carbonation and head. Quite potent and fuller with its lager malt flavour. It’s quite clean tasting too so suggests the water used for this beer is very good.

Can. Clear golden body with a thin white head. Steady carbonation. No lacing. Aroma of sweetcorn and lemony earth. Flavour of sweet grain and pear. Thin body with a watery texture. Soft fizz. Not great but ok on a hot day.
