This NW style sour ale is a strong blond ale aged in chardonnay barrels for up to 12 months, then aged with dried white figs and lemon peel or up to 12 more months. Aromas of sweet figs, golden raisins, and citrus zest are the first to be noticed. Hints of white wine grapes, lemon peel, and sweet figs roll across the palate, leading to a crisp lemon tartness in the finish that leaves a lingering sweetness on the tongue.

From 75cl bottle at Grand Cru, Rimini, Italy. Pours golden, crisp, with low foam. Aroma is highly tannic, recalling white wine with strong sourness, and white pulp fruits. Body is medium-dense, with birth astringency and some stickiness. Taste is markedly sour, an tannic. Finish is relatively long.

Draft at the Barrel House. Bright, clear golden body, substantial foamy head. Big, tart aroma follows through to taste, puckering. And dry, bone dry, drink some water soon dry. A it musty, tart and sweet, lots going on here.Worth seeking out.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle, 2011 Project vintage. Aroma is fruity with some light fig notes as well as some moderate green grape and lemon notes. Hints of tropical fruit with medium light oak notes. Faint malt notes present. Hints of the alcohol. Pours a slightly cloudy, bright, copper-orange with a medium small, somewhat thin, white head that recedes quickly to the edges where a small film lingers for a bit. No lacing or legs. Flavor has a moderately strong acidity with a medium light sweetness. The acidity is a bit sharp, but well balanced by the sugars. Nice medium light fig notes with moderate notes of golden raisins, green grapes, and lemon. The lemon is definitely lighter than in the aroma though. Some medium light oak and white wine notes. Light alcohol notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, this was a better beer than I was expecting. I forget that while the acidity in Cascade beers can be somewhat simple, the acidity isn’t very sharp. Fairly easy to drink with some nice white wine notes. The figs aren’t super prevalent, but I really like that the lemon notes that are super strong in the aroma are not nearly as dominant in the flavor.
