This NW style sour ale is a blend of Wheat ales that were aged in oak wine barrels with cranberries, orange peel and cinnamon for up to 14 months. Using cranberries grown along the Oregon coast, the 2015 blend offers brilliant cranberry fruit flavor with soft spice notes that offer refreshment throughout the entire year.

Bottle share. Faded golden reddish color, small white head. Nose is fruity, some hints of acid and rubbing alcohol. Taste is tart, fruity, a little sour. Seems like a little alcohol burn that should not be there...

Bottle. Pours a cloudy bright peach with a near white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a light tart cranberry with some acid with a bit of oak underlying. Flavor has sour cranberry throughout with a bit of oak and a touch of earthiness.

750 ml corked and caged bottle purchased at the Cascade Brewing Barrel House in Portland, Oregon. 2015 Project. The pour is a hazed orange reddish with a well formed 1/2 inch white head. The aroma is cranberry fruit, tart and a touch of basement funk. The taste is oak vanilla wood up front, house character of the Cascade tangy funk right behind, then moving towards the cranberry fruit in the back. The cranberry gets a bit husky as it warms, and doesn’t seem to meld with the Cascade sour quite as well as cherry or blueberry. The palate is medium to heavy bodied with active carbonation and tart funk finish. I purchased this for Thanksgiving dinner, and it certainly worked well.

Draft pour at the Sixgill. Left over from last night’s cascade event. Pours a bright grapefruit pink color with a foam ring head. Red grape and cranberry aroma. Flavor is quite winish, with a ton of mixed berry. Doesn’t come off as cranberry specific to me, but its there. Overall a good sour, but not one of their best.
