Bamberg Bash Day 1. Tasting in Colin’s room along with some quality music! Lightly hazy amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is light and dry and a little soft. Sweetish caramel malt, whisper of dried fruits. Dry finish.

500ml bottle. Clear dark amber colour with average, frothy, rapidly diminishing, minimally lacing, off-white head. Slightly grainy and strawy aroma, only very cautiously malty for a Doppelbock. Taste is moderately sweet malty, malt lozenge, rock sugar, malt spicyness, cautious dry hoppy counterweight. Taste is OK, deficiencies concerning aroma and head.

Dark brown colour, disappearing head. Aroma is rather rich with sweetish malt, some coffee and chocolate. Flavour is sweet with lots of malt. Decent.

bottle, bought at the brewery. Clear deep brown colour, large beige head. Full-bodied, lovely malty base with lots of caramel, forest honey, chocolate, dark berries... and a shy hoppy touch in the lingering finish. Delicious.

The bottle looks very good, beer in the glass dark, but not black, nice head. Starts strong, intense malty, modest smoky. A bit sourish, which is unusual for a doppelbock. Well balanced finish, warming-malty, quite drinkable. A good one!
