For this year’s Rainbow Project collaboration with Garage Project we drew the colour indigo. After much research on both sides the idea that excited us all most was that of the Blacklight Banana. Ripe bananas uniquely glow bright indigo under UV lights, one possible reason for this being that it identifies them as a food source for animals that see in the UV range, like bats. Molasses, Caramelised Bananas, Banana Purée and Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee Beans elevate this beer to something special. Bottle from Cork & Cask. Black body with a thin beige head that gradually fades. Very faint lacing. Aroma of green banana, roasted malt and chocolate. Flavour of liquorice, flower petals and chocolate cake. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. Sweet and simple but rather tasty. The banana is well integrated.

Tap @ Fermentoren, Aarhus. Black with a brown head. Aroma is sweet, roasted malt, banana and chocolate. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish with warming alcohol. Oily. Even though I let it warm up the banana wasn’t too dominant. 141016

Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Online Store, Earlsdon, Coventry in my Rainbow Project box. Consumed at home making pizzas, Thursday 13th October 2016 Shark eye black with a beige head, incredibly the coffee with a little burnt caramel somehow manages to steal the show here. However the banana adds a lot of body here, really soft squidginess, just getting a bourbon hit. Getting a Mocha coffee, milkshake feel, love this. A8 A4 T8 P5 Ov17 4.2

330ml bottle from Honest Brew, shared with the Mrs. Was looking forward to this one after reading the description, sounded like it could be very interesting. In the end, I found it to be just a decent banana flavoured strong stout, so was a little disappointing.

Cask at Euston Tap. Black. Low carbonation. Some aoy sauce, heavy roast, alcohol on the palate and in the aroma. A little banana l, and this is sweet, along with some soy sauce. Banana mostly in the finish. Very rich. Good. A little acidic at the end.

Keg at casc. It pours jet black with a medium tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, coffee, rather fruity, big banana split character, cacao nibs, dark chocolate, light vanilla and toffee. The taste is rich, yet smooth, slick, roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, fruity, touch of banana (not as much as aroma) some alcohol, dark chocolate, toasty, ash and charred wood with a toasty finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Nice blend of flavours. Good fun.
