Berliner Weisse-Style Ale with Added Passionfruit, Orange & Guava

We’ve had plenty of fan-favorite beers over the years, but few have garnered the cult-like adoration of this one. Stone Notorious P.O.G. was originally brewed at our 10bbl Liberty Station brewhouse in San Diego, as a collaboration with comedian / actor Jonah Ray. It’s a tribute to the passion fruit, orange and guava juice (aka POG) he grew up drinking in Hawaii. This Berliner Weisse-style ale is loaded with the aforementioned trifecta of fresh, tropical fruits, making for a unique flavor that’s tart and refreshing yet deeply rich and complex. It’s as ridiculously tasty as it is deliciously unique.

This beer was first brewed with Jonah Ray for Hop-Con 4.0. It was such a hit that we decided to brew a limited amount again this year. Jonah grew up playing POGs while he was living in Hawaii and drinking POG Juice so he wanted to create a beer with POG in mind. A very refreshing tart ale with plenty of fruit character. Passion fruit and guava intermingle with an intense orange punch.

Admin Note: This was initially released as part of the Stone Pilot Series in a limited draft-only release.

Wow this is super good beer! The grapefruit is so fresh seeming that I would have swore that they were using fresh grapefruit puree in the can. Aromas and flavors are just right. Perfect balance between sweet tart and a hint of bitter with excellent carbonation body and finish.

Can from Cap Tap. Pours hazy gold with a creamy white head. For me the aroma is quava with some passionfruit. Near med body. Juicily undry. Flavor is very guava, but passionfruit and citrus are detectable. Just a little tart. Or a bit more. Very tasty - viva Guava!

Pint bought for me at the Gold Bar Saloon. Consumed while being abused by obnoxious music, so that probably skews this rating. Hazy yellow color, with a small, white head. The aroma is lemon juice, vanilla yogurt, and peach. Sweet and sugary, and quite aggressively sour. Medium body, with a sticky, acidic mouthfeel. This berliner weisse is a bit hard and aggressive, but pretty good.

Stone Berlin version. Murky yellow body, white head. Big tropical fruit & citrus fruit aroma. Tropical fruit taste, sweetish, lactic near the end, lemon, citric tartness. Quite tasty!

$2.30 Can from WW. Hazy gold with an off-white head. Guava dominates the nose - fresh and juicy, along with a bit of orange. Flavor is tart guava, passion fruit, orange, grasses, light chalk.

On tap at Valhalla Viking Metal Craft Beer Bar, Zagreb. Huge thanks, Plush, for this one. Marko is here, too. Murky yellow to golden, small to medium off-white head, massive retention. Fruity flavours, sour fruit, pineapple, white grapes, light vanilla, light rose petals, light acidity. Soft sourness. Floral and fruity background. Lemony. Smooth. Sour finish.
