Inspired by the American take on our own IPAs, this blend of five American hops that gives a fragrant aroma that make it perfect for summertime drinking. The image on the label represent the Golden Gate bridge which is a famous feature of San Francisco, where American IPAs originated in the 1970s, kicking off the West Coast's micro brewing revolution.

The M&S version. Clear, copper colour. Bubbly, lasting, white head. I’m not having a good beer evening, this evening. Another big, fruity, buttery job. Chewy, toffee sweet palate. Bitter finish. Hoped for more from a 6.8% Adnams beer. Oh well...

Big brownish head. Clear deep dark red body with light carbonation. Floral grape and gooseberry aroma with deep fruity notes. Dry-sweet fruity perfumy catty taste with resiny plasticky notes. Mid-bodied. Sharpish mouthfeel. Dryish nutty fruity aftertaste with plasticky earthy notes. Bitter almonds finish. Odd. It starts out gloriously, then goes downhill in a bitter, artificial kind of way. Hard to see why, really. (0.5l bottle, from Marks & Spencer, Edgware Road, London.)

50cl bottle of Marks and Spencer Southwold Summer IPA. A bright copper colour with a thin white head; tropical fruit aroma; big tropical fruit taste, with a light spicy bitterness; and a pleasant, soft, warming finish with a lingering grapefruit taste. This goes to show that the Brits can produce a good American-style IPA.

As Marks and spencer summer ipa. Malty aroma, bicuit and caramel, a touch oxidation. Earthy resin hop in the aroma as well. Hazy light amber colour dense creamy head, that fades to a whisp. Flavour is earthy bitterness, slight chalk, a little boozy. Medium body, average carbonation. Not a fan.

Bottle at Jack’s Sausage Festival - London. Labeled as Marks and Spencer Southwold Summer IPA. Decent beer all around. Pours clear gold with a large, frothy white head. Some bready pale malts mucking about, some tasty citrus, orange, light lemon merengue, moderate bitterness. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly resinous to finish, some further orange citrus notes, lightly toasted pale malts. Very drinkable for the ABV. Nice.
