Recreated using a Californian yeast strain, pale ale malted barley, along with some Munich malt, Crystal malt and malted wheat. This will provide the biscuity backdrop to the big American hops. A blend of five American hops gives our beer a deep citrus bitterness with a fragrant citrus/floral aroma.

2016 catch up - Bottle as M&S Summer IPA - A very nice IPA. Hops, smoothness and a very well hidden alcohol. I could easily drink this until I fell over and I would enjoy every moment of it. A very British IPA with more bitterness than floral hop flavours and all the better for it.

Bottle at home, 31/12/15 as M and S Southwold Summer IPA. Clear golden orange with a well appointed off white covering. Nose is orange, grain, toasted bread, light metallic notes, citric pith. Taste comprises orange squash, bread dough, toasted malt, light caramel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, drying close with light hop bitterness. Ok drinkable affair if somewhat pedestrian for style and under hopped for my liking.

Handpull cask at the Castle Inn, Cambridge. Dark gold with a bit of white head on top. Pine resin, tropical fruit, barley sugar and maple syrup aroma. The taste is a well-balanced bittersweet, shifting quickly to a more pronounced hoppy bitterness in the throat which increases through to the finish and aftertaste. Full body, oily palate. Exemplary.

Bottle shared, as Marks and Spencer Southwold Summer IPA. Pours clear amber with a small off white head. Aroma of toffee, caramel, yeast, dark fruit, a light herbal note and a touch of orange. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter with a slightly resinous hop juice coating palate in contrast to the not so hoppy nose. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.
