SMaSH (Single Malt and Single Hop) IPAs are simple creatures, allowing the true essence of ingredients to shine through. Occasionally, the simple begets the complex. Yellow Rose is brewed with this philosophy, creating a deliciously complex and irresistible IPA. Santa Anna knows…

Tasting notes: chalk-white head with a very clean malt backbone. The hops impart strong grapefruit, pineapple, and blueberry flavor and aroma.

Shared 25.4 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy pale golden with a fluffy white head. Aroma is very fresh with grapefruit, citrus, and pineapple. Taste is citrus, grapefruit, funk, malt, and mildly bitter mosaic hops. More fruity than anything else. Even picking up a bit on the blueberry, though I’m not sure I’d have been able to identify the flavor as blueberry without having read the deScription. Quite refreshing. Lives up to the hype.

Out of the bottle in March ’16. Really enjoyed this compared with the first time I had it. Massive dank and citrus. Hazy yellow and retained white head. Flavor follows aroma. Scored 3.2 the first time, so while I would score this batch a 3.8, I am upping it to 3.6 to reflect a middle ground. First tasting in Feb ’16: Tap at Craft Pride in Austin. Massive cat litter dominates the aroma! Hazy deep gold with white head that is fleeting. Taste combines massive juice, pine and slight cat.

[1/30/16] Bottle sample at the Encomium bottle share, after RateBeer Best awards ceremony at Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel in Santa Rosa. Thanks everyone who shared bottles! Golden. Hoppy aroma, overripe fruits. Slightly sweetish.

On tap at Hi Hat. Very citrus, more pineapple than grapefruit. Big hops presence in aroma and taste, falls off after that. Up front, but weak finish, still tasty.

750ml bottle shared by Ben. Creamy, thick, unfiltered body. Tropical guava hop aroma. Soft on the palate. Really phenomenal beer. Pretty much a perfect IPA for 2014. World Class, completely fantastic. Super fresh impressive fruity hop tones. Great.

Capped 750 mL bottle thanks to Secret Santa Summer 2015! Hazy straw yellow, large foamy white head, decent retention. Aroma of mango, pineapple, tangerine, pale malt. The taste is mango, papaya, pineapple, citrus, mild pine and resin, pale malt. Medium bodied, moderate lingering bitterness, well balanced. This is a very nice beer.

Bottle with thanks to Cloaker. Pours cloudy amber, medium off-white head that dissipates slowly and laces well. Aroma is a bit dank, pot and damp forest floor, some spruce, citrus, a bit of bready malt. Flavor follows, light sweet and light plus bitter, dank with some lingering bitterness. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Pretty tasty.
