Cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford. Pours a dark chestnut with a small off-white head. Sweet malts to the fore in the aroma, alongside hints of fruit and chewy toffee. In the mouth it starts off fruity and slightly sweet with a creamy texture, flavours of raisins, cherries and hints of herbs and citrus. Some traditional hops come through later. Finish is fruity and slightly bitter. This is rather nice – a good old no-nonsense bitter.
