Arrogant Bastard Ale fans, rejoice. You’ve read it right, we are continuing our beer-fuelled exploits with Escondido’s Stone Brewing Co. This time, we’ve taken in what they have let loose into the world. Out on its own, after being heavily guarded for 17 years, The Arrogant Bastard has set its sights on those only worthy enough to take The Bastard on. BrewDog has adopted The Bastard from across the pond, to try our hand at concocting our very own, unashamedly superior and maddeningly tasty, one hell of a haughty 7.2% ABV Ale.

Tap at Brewdog Liverpool. Lots of malt, sweet Belgian yeastiness, nutty, cherry candy sweetness. Candy sugar? This is pretty good by me. Smells a bit funny but tastes pretty good.

Tap @ Brewdog, Soho. Hazy brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and moderate hoppy - old hops. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. Not bad but not fresh. 230316

Half-pint, draught at BrewDog Nottingham. Stable tan-coloured head that made clingy lacing down the glass. Deep ruby-brown body. Good looking, indeed. Taste of almond and dried fruits. Spiced malt-fruity flavours of leafy hops and roasted malts. Resinous bitterness towards the finish. Fine bodied. Good drinking (shared with Finn, 20.02.2016).

Keg at Brewdog Edinburgh. Pours clear red amber with a thin cream coloured head. Aromas of toffee and resinous hops. Taste is quite cloyingly sweet (Especially after the almanac sour!). Dark sugars pervade the finish. Not a fan.

2/3 from Doghouse in Glasgow. A clear red beer with an off-white head and a light aroma of malt. It’s quite a dry beer with a bit of a hoppy, rye blend to the taste. There’s some fruit kicking about in there too, something light like apple maybe? Stays dry and hoppy in the aftertaste as well with something I couldn’t place in there as well, a bit nutty perhaps. Complex and nicely balanced.

Keg @ Brewdog, Birmingham. Pours clear deep amber, thin off-white head. More cocoa and treacle than I recall from Arrogant Bastard. Certainly more dark fruits than brash hops. Good stuff though. My 3000th beer rating.
