[December 2022] Deep, dark brown, near black, with a frothy/creamy tan head. Nice and roasty, semi-creamy with a dollop of bitterness in the finish

Cask at Bull & Stirrup, Chester. Pours a dark ruby with a small foamy beige head. The aroma is mainly oats and lactose with a fiar sprinkling of malts. In the mouth those malts become dominant along with chocolate though oats can still be distinguished. At first the texture is creamy, but later it becomes quite bitter with burnt toast and hints of liquorice. Finish is somewhat dry and bitter. This is rather nice. A solid stout that hasn’t had the kitchen sink thrown at it.

Cask-conditioned, at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol 28/11/22. Near black in colour with reddish undertones and a slight, off-white, head. Sweet chocolate throughout, a touch of red berries, some vanilla oak, before a rich , malty, finish. Good.

Almost black in colour with a small lasting tan head. The aroma is bitter chocolate and dark roasted malts. A dry roasted malt taste, not too sweet, bitter chocolate and some hints of ash in the finish. Nice.

Aroma of roasted malts, light coffee
Taste of soft sweet dark malts, soft roast, light black coffee
Palate - medium light body, light creamy, fairly bitter roast. Finish of soft dark malts, mellow roast
Overall - Decent flavours in this but a bit thin for an Oatmeal Stout

Cask at the Crosse Keys (JDW), London. A glossy black pour with a fast fading coffee coloured head; aroma of ground coffee; sweet, oaty body with some bitter coffee and a drier finish leaving a milky mouth feel. A rather good, tasty stout.
