From the world's first Small Beer Brewery, 'The Original Small Beer Dark Lager' is all coffee, toast and dark chocolate. It noses like a stout or porter, but drinks like a lager leaving you with a lightly roasted finish on the palate. This is unquestionably a beer to both refresh & challenge.

Bottle at Longstock Farm Shop and Cafe. Aroma of coffee and cardboard. Looks like cola with a creamy light beige head. Light-medium bitter - espresso - with a citrus sour edge to it. Light. Thin. Fizzy carbonation. Ling dry finish. Nice enough.

Bottle shared pre final IMBC session - picked up in London. Pours clear chestnut with a small, foamy beige head. Nice aroma of toasted biscuits with hints of cocoa. Light sweet flavour, more toasted biscuits, mild earthy bitterness, subtle chocolate, roast. Light bodied with massaging carbonation. Decent balance in the finish, a light metallic note, more soft cocoa, mellow roast and toasted biscuits. Actually not bad.

28/3/2018. Bottle from Water into Beer, Brockley. Pours dark chestnut brown with a large frothy off-white head. Aroma of milk chocolate, coffee, roasted malt and dark fruit. Medium sweetness and moderate bitterness. Light body, thin texture, average carbonation. Smells and looks the part, body is what you'd expect for a beer with such an abv and overall one of the best low alcohol beers I've tried.

Bottle at HB&B. It pours black with a thick, foamy light tan head. The aroma is earthy, toasty grain, cardboard, cocoa, cola and a touch of spice. The taste is a dry, bitter, toasty grain, earthy roast, bit of spice and cocoa with a drying finish. Light body and high, foamy carbonation. Pretty solid for a low abv beer. Tastes like beer.
