Bottle shared by brewer. Pours brownish with a slight head. Aroma of roasty malt and light smoke. Med body or better. Flavor is chocolate, citrus, smoke, pine, treacle? Actually rather clean given the flavors, and it comes out much like a hoppy schwarzbier. :)

On tap at the brewpub. A dark brown one, almost clear, topped by a small, dense beige head. Mostly hoppy aroma, piney and with a good load of citrus peel. Some roasted notes, just enough actually. Lightly roasted, bonfire like flavor with a good bitterness and lots of tasteful hops. Full body, nicely carbonated. A really fine specimen. 130807
