On tap at the brewpub, Morro Bay. Pours black with lasting medium head. Citrus, lemon, berries, quite sour, spicy, wood, brett, vinegarish. Medium bodied. Unusual, I've liked it,

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, no vintage bottle dating. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tart/sour cherry, lemon, raisin, plum, blackberry, raspberry, currant, apricot, green apple, melon, pear, concord grape, red wine, peppercorn, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, leathery/musty funk, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, roast/bready malt, and oak barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart/sour cherry, lemon, raisin, plum, blackberry, raspberry, currant, apricot, green apple, melon, pear, concord grape, red wine, peppercorn, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, leathery/musty funk, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, light smoke/red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness and yeast/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/sour cherry, lemon, raisin, plum, blackberry, raspberry, currant, apricot, green apple, melon, pear, concord grape, red wine, peppercorn, toasted oak, hay, straw, grass, leathery/musty funk, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, red wine vinegar, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, roast/bready malt, and oak barrel flavors; with a nice malt/tart/sourness and yeast/oak spiciness balance. Touch of increasing pucker, but not astringent on sourness. Moderate increasing dryness from tart/sourness, yeast/oak spiciness, and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/acidic/tannic, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Fairly crisp/foamy on carbonation. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 7%. Overall this is a delicious sour/wild dark saison. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, roast/bready malt, and oak barrel flavors; very smooth, crisp, and easy to drink; despite the increasingly lactic/tannic/drying finish. Really well rounded funky Brett and Lacto complexity. Great oak and nice roasted malt presence, without overwhelming the yeast flavor profile. A very enjoyable offering, and nice style example. Dark saisons/sours are always difficult to appreciate, but this one works well.

Keg at Jupiter, Berkeley, 29/01/16. Black with a decent light tan covering. Nose is spice, herbal clump, vegetal tones, a touch harsh and farty. Taste comprises pissy citric drizzle, tarte fruit wash, light spice. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light acidic spike. Not great .... not a lot on offer here and what there is is pretty harsh and disjointed. Not many good dark saisons about !

Keg at Juliter. Pours clear dark brown with a creamy tan head. Funky aroma, some dark fruits, burnt wood, prunes. Light sweet flavor with mellow acetic bite, light roast, dried dark fruits, berries, subtle lemony tang. Light to medium bodied with average carbonation. Tart finish, more soft roast, light lemon, berries. Not bad overall.

Draught at Jupiter. Clear deep brown liquid with small light tan head. Aroma of lemon, grain, light ash, lactic acid and toast. Taste is dry and medium sour with notes of lemon, herbs, light ash and grain. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. W@. Very weird beer. Meh.

On draft at Caps & Taps. It pours a dark brown color with a light tan head. It smells like a cinnamon pop tart....with a cherry jam filling. Really. Hints of toast. The flavor is medium sour, roasted and soapy. Sour cherries with a little vinegar and tobacco. Weird stuff in a border line good/bad sort of way. Interesting none-the-less.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours dark brn; orange glints. Tan head. Aroma is mildly sour. Med ++ body. Flavor is red berry sour, almost sour/tart. Seems to have an astringency suggesting oak. Pretty tasty.
