What Fizzy Yellow Beer should be!
I believe that "Fizzy Yellow Beer" can and should be full of life and flavor unlike domestic mass produced, mundane, lifeless, boring, bland, fizzy yellow, insipid swill that takes up cooler space and tap handles at our local markets, pubs and restaurants. San Diego’s East Village is full of life and Green Flash is adding flavor to this burgeoning neighborhood with "East Village Pilsner". It’s made from premium European Pilsner Malt and Noble Hops. Traditional Pilsner lager yeast ferments the beer and imparts a clean flavor, yet unique character during the one-month lagering period. Of course our East Village Pilsner has a bit more hop than even the best European examples, which makes it truly a Green Flash Original. 5.3% ABV – 35 IBUs.

Tap at the Ginger Man, NYC, 18/05/13 labelled as ’East Village Pilsener’. Clear pale golden with a thin white head. Nose is pale malts, grass, citrus, sugars. Taste comprises citrus, light sugar, bread, touch of hops. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, crisp finish with light bitterness. Ok pils.

On tap at Birch and Barley. Pours a bit of a deep gold with some spitty, white head. Nose is nice, yeasty, bready, some citrus punching through, grass. Flavor was the same, grassy, meyer lemon, white bread crust, yeasty dough. Medium bodied, clean dry finish. Very nice.

On tap at Papago a few months back pouring up crystal clear deep gold with a decent enough white head of foam. The aroma has sweet malts, a modest level of grainy malts and floral hops. The taste delivers straight up lagery flavors with sweet Pilsener malts, lagery yeastiness and then heading into various levels of floral hops that go from fairly bitter to flavor and then back to bitter again. The bitter floral hops are what mostly linger into the after taste. Decent enough Pils but not my favorite as this one seems a little too sweet and too floral for my taste.

Pizzeria Paradiso, Alexandria tap ($6): Pours a golden color with a white head. Aroma is biscuit, hops, and grass. Taste is very much on the bready side of pilsners. Hops were present, but were more subdued. The body was most excellent. "Twas quite a good pilsner methinks.

Draught at the brewery. Clear, light golden liquid with medium white head. Aroma of grain/cereal, citrus, lager yeast, grapefruit and biscuit. Taste is dry and light to medium bitter with notes of grain, biscuit and citrus. Light to medium bodied with medium to high carbonation.

From tap at the blind lady. Pours clear and golden yellow with a small white head. Aroma is light yeasty, phenolic and light peppery to estery. Bitter, dry phenolic and toasted malty flavoured. Bitter and dry finish.

On tap at Green Flash as East Village Pils. Pours with a crystal clear pale golden hued body with a white head that lasts and leaves good lace. Aromas are floral, bready, grainy malt. Some honey notes, medium hops. Pils like malt character. Flavors are grainy, grassy, herbal hops, bready. Dry and extremely clean with a slightly bitter balance. Lively bubbles, dry, crisp and bitter. As it should be; a good pils.
