French for "Two Friends," Deux Amis brings together two esteemed brewers who have long admired each other's work—Olivier Dedeycker, fourth generation Master Brewer at Brasserie Dupont and Tomme Arthur, acclaimed Brew Master of Lost Abbey. Brewed in Belgium using Dupont's 172-year-old brewing equipment, techniques, and its revered yeast strain, this collaboration marries the two brewer's Saison styles and adds American Amarillo and Simcoe hops. The result of this kinship is a dry, refreshing Old World Saison full of peppery spice that finishes with New World flavors of floral orange and earthy pine.

Bottle shared at Slutfest Six, 8/6/16. Thanks ogbuthr! Hazy orange, large fizzy off-white head. Good retention. Aroma of bready malt, spice, yeast, lime. The taste is lemon, lime, yeast, spice, bready malt. Medium bodied, refreshing. Nice.

Tap @ In De Wildeman, sample size. Straw yellow color, hazy. Firm white head. Aroma’s: Dupont yeast, rustic, fruit, caramel. Retronasal it’s yeasty, caramel, sweet, light bitter, light fruity. Flavor is rather sweet, caramel malts, light bitter. Medium bodied. Quite dry finish, but just moderate bitterness. Nice, but not Dupont’s best. Should maybe try from bottle.

Lightly hazy glowing golden with a firm white hat. Floral and citrus spritzy with nice pepper and spice. Some peach, soft lemon zest, some orange, and a good earthy finish layered underneath. Peppery citrus finish. Medium body with lively carbonation. A real standout. (100th saison)

750ml bottle. Cloudy, orangey, minimally pale golden colour with average to huge, fluffy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Funky, fruity aroma, notes of unripe apricot and peach, nectarine, sweet-ish bready malty undertones. Taste is dry, funky, quite soapy and minimally fruity hoppy, hints of white pepper, remnants of apricot, widely disguised, minimally bready malty background with subtle residual sweetness; fine and gentle carbonation, smooth palate. Happily the initial impression of soapiness is alleviated after a while, a second pour offers additionally some lime and lemon zest in aroma and taste, also more peppery yeasty spiciness concerning the aroma. Nevertheless a feeling of little disappointment - caused by the spoiling soapiness at the outset - isn’t fully removed; at least as measured by the(ir own) admittedly high standard of Dupont’s Saison Cuvée Dry Hopping. Btw: A perfect example to prove the randomness and unsoundness of small pour ratings contingent upon the blob one gets off.

Draft, at FOB, in Rimini, Italy. Color is blonde, slightly pale, worth abundant white foam. Aroma tells of spices, and of lemon zest. Also some aroma typical of sour beers. Body is medium, with medium-high carbonation. Taste has low bitterness, but also low sweetness. BUT palate is very dry. Overall, a nice beer which leaves a nice mouth. -- rated with beerbasher/winphone

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out lovely rustic farmhouse notes, with cereal notes, and some fruity esters. Flavour is along the same lines, with lots of spicy rustic farmhouse notes dominating, with a touch of funk, and a touch of fruity esters. Dry, spicy, farmhouse-y finish. Excellent.

Hazy, light tan. Thin head. Fresh Dupont yeast, pear, light apricot. Really nice pale malts, fresh yeastiness, light pears and other esters. Nice carbonation. The pale malts are clean, providing nice backdrop. Dry finish, again with that big yeasty flourish. The hop aromatics are restrained, but this is very well-balanced.
