French for "Two Friends," Deux Amis brings together two esteemed brewers who have long admired each other's work—Olivier Dedeycker, fourth generation Master Brewer at Brasserie Dupont and Tomme Arthur, acclaimed Brew Master of Lost Abbey. Brewed in Belgium using Dupont's 172-year-old brewing equipment, techniques, and its revered yeast strain, this collaboration marries the two brewer's Saison styles and adds American Amarillo and Simcoe hops. The result of this kinship is a dry, refreshing Old World Saison full of peppery spice that finishes with New World flavors of floral orange and earthy pine.

Hazy, light tan. Thin head. Fresh Dupont yeast, pear, light apricot. Really nice pale malts, fresh yeastiness, light pears and other esters. Nice carbonation. The pale malts are clean, providing nice backdrop. Dry finish, again with that big yeasty flourish. The hop aromatics are restrained, but this is very well-balanced.

Craft and Draft. Keg. Light haze on this gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is light, mildly dry. Reasonable fine carbonation. Dry malts, not sweet. Dry spicy mid. Spicy floralness. Some herb. Dry spicy finish. Pretty bloody dry and spicy then. Uncompromising saison.

Solid saison, nice and dry, some citrus notes. Light hoppyness adds an interesting extra layer. Reminds of the essence of goats.

Bottle. Malt Attacks, Brussels. Hazy gold. Thick, dense, lacing, lasting, white head. Looks pretty perfect. Nose is that very familiar Dupont yeast. Some hop spice. Some stodgy bread. Taste is bready sweet, with a lemon hop bitterness. Soft, foamy mouthfeel. Bitterness rises toward the finish, staying yeasty and sweet throughout. Ok, but not far removed from a standard Dupont saison.

On draught at Hopleaf. The beer is a clear golden color with a medium frothy white head that diminishes gradually to a film. Sparse strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, herbal yeast and malt. Medium body with flavors of lightly funky citrus, peppery yeast, malt and mild hops. The finish is fruity with a Belgian yeast aftertaste. Pretty good overall.
