Bottle from an Alko around Vaasa, Finland. Pours black with a low beige head. Aroma is coffee, green peppers, liquorice. Body is heavy, strongly roasted and bitter. Liquorice and coffee again. Low but lively carbonation, with a softly oily texture. Palate is still strongly roasted and bitter, peaty. Good.

Aroma is slightly rich and sweet roasted, dark malts, chocolate, toast, dark sugar, minerals, alcohol, caramel, hops, coffee, licorice, chocolate pudding. Taste is slightly dry sour-ish mineraly, weeds, sour-ish roasted grain, minerals, bark, alcohol, sour coffee, grass, dark malts, burnt toast, harsh hops. 33cl bottle from Alko, Helsinki. Pours close to pitch black with a somewhat modest brown head. Rather intense aroma, dominated by roasted malt and dark fruits with dark chocolate, coffee, caramel and hints of wood and vanilla. Fairly sweet, rather complex too with a nice bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is noticeable, but quite well integrated. Decent stuff.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Pitch black, dark tan head. Sweet dried prunes and molasses, moderate roasty notes and just a hint of booze. The taste is that of a honest, easy drinking balanced impy - light treacle sweetness, balanced acrid roast and moderate hop bitterness. "No gimmicks", indeed.

Bottle split at CBC Islo, thanks to Timo, 07/07/16. Black with a decent tan cap. Nose is chocolate, coffee, light roast, peppery spice. Taste comprises chocolate cake, roast malt, toffee fudge, light coffee tones, charr. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. No wow factor but a decent well rounded impy that’s easy to drink.

Black beer with good and long lasting brown head. Aroma is caramel, coffee and roasted chocolate. Taste is malty, chocolate, roasted and coffee with milk. Good hops aroma with coffee. Full body, delicious, balanced and very smooth overall. Could still be a bit stronger?
