Kluiz Triple is a beer with character that becomes apparent as one tastes it. You will be won over by the purity and luminosity of its golden colour. You will be surprised by its crisp, fresh aspect. It has the fruity aroma of hops and yeast exhaling notes of citrus and grass, as well as a twist of orange. The end is marked by the expression of triumphant hops that lingers in the mouth, testimony to a belated addition.

The tripel in this series, with the expected tiring story of a historical event in the 7th century that has nothing to do with the beer - we are in very traditional Belgian territory here. Gusher and quite fiercely so, but I had a glass in my other hand so no loss - just act quickly and be prepared, also for foam that keeps creeping out of the bottleneck afterwards. Thick and dense, egg-white, creamy, pillowy, membrane-lacing head, misty peach blonde robe with ochre-ish tinge and a suspension of yeast bits floating throughout (no doubt related to the gushing), turning a bit 'soupy' with sediment. Aroma of canned peaches, gin, yellow raspberries, banana peel, dry straw, fresh basil leaves or even peppermint plants, bubblegum, red cabbage cooked with apples, candied lemon, weird note of liquorice somewhere, apple cake, honey, cut flowers. Sweet onset, banana ester but not over the top, mingled with fried apple, ripe pear and canned pineapple, sourish undertone and lively carbonation providing some balance against the sweetness, supple and smooth body, white-bready slickness with a honeyish edge but developing balancing, very herbal and floral hop bitterness in the end, even if the sweetness remains the dominant factor, even accentuated by a very gin-like alcohol effect in the finish. Retronasal aspects of mint leaf or fresh basil, possibly phenolic in nature, but in quite a bright and even somewhat perfumey way - I wonder which spice or herb went in here, and when the Belgian legislator will finally oblige brewers to mention them on their labels... Sweet and accessible tripel, too boozy and rather unbalanced, but this strange herbal note does set it apart a bit, even though I still doubt if this is a good thing. Expected even worse, to be honest.

28/II/20 - 33cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte), shared @ home, BB: n/a (nothing on the label) (2020-186)

Pretty clear orange beer, big creamy yellowish white head, stable, adhesive, leaving some lacing in the glass. Aroma: pretty malty, grains, lots of ripe banana, yeasty, some coriander. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sweet and sugary start, lot of overripe banana, malty, pretty spicy, some alcohol. Aftertaste: more overripe banana, spicy, coriander overload, sugary, little bitter, fruity notes, sugary and sticky, too much banana and coriander for my liking, but a full flavoured tripel if anything.

13/10/2018 - tasting glass shared with rubin77 and some friends @ Bless Bierhappening, Zottegem. Clear golden, medium white head. Nose is malts, overripe fruits, caramel. Taste is malts, bready, fruits, caramel, alcohol. Doens't feel fresh, has some quad aspects, could benefit from a lower alcohol level, bit hops, ... Not OK for a new tripel as for me.

F: medium, white, average retention. C: gold, almost clear. A: malty, honey, fruity, herbal, caramel, bit toast. T: malty, spicy, bready, fruity esters, bit alcohol but not disturbing, medium to full body and medium carbonation, may be too simple but not bad enjoyable for me, sample from tap shared with Bierridder_S and his friends @ 25th Bierhappening on Saturday 13/10/2018 in Zottegem.
