Bottle thx to skortila, small sample. Slight hazy copper color, short frothy head. Aroma has some red fruit, toffee, bit lactic acid, slight oak wood. Soft sour in taste, slight caramely sweetness, fruity. Great balance, could have a bit more complexity. Great job.

Classically styled Flemish red honouring the late Eddy Wally, an eccentric Flemish crooner who was well known in both Belgium and the Netherlands; fits in De Prael’s tradition of naming their beers after popular Dutch language singers. Thin, loose, pale beige, not very stable head, hazy reddish burgundy robe with wine-red hue. Aroma of passion fruit, sweet sherry, caramel, red wine and peach-infused vinegar, redcurrant, sweet gherkins. Very fruity onset, from sweetish peach over sour-sweet passion fruit to sour redcurrant, softly drying the whole palate as it should be in an oud bruin, lactic, caramelly malt backbone underneath, supple but lacking a bit of ’roundedness’ and smoothness perhaps, lactic tartness and woody notes drying the finish but sweetness also continues. Could do with a bit more body but pure flavor-wise, this is a well-accomplished example of an essentially complicated old beer style. Pleasant surprise.

Small white rim over hazy brown beer. Vinous nose, red wine, fruit on alcohol. Vinous, sour fruit, amalgam of nice fusels and esters, wine-drenched wood. Medium bodied, very slick. Quite good. So the death of the Shame of Flanders is good for a second time.
