Side Project Gamma Ray

22 fl oz bottle, courtesy of CaptainCougar. Pours hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is mild caramelish and phenolic fruity with a hint of oranges. Caramelish and slight sticky mouthfeel. Light bitterness and light roasted light breadish note. Lingering and malty flavoured finish.

Cloudy golden with a tiny white head. Sweet flavour with banana, wheat and yeasty notes. Sweet flavour with malt, caramel, wheat, ripe fruits, banana and yeasty notes. Finished sweet with warming alcohol notes.

Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of CaptainCougar. Hazy golden with a small, off-white head. Aroma of banana and yeast. Medium body, banana fruity, strange yeastiness and a solid alcohol burn. Underlying tartness. Not much bitterness. A very different Barley Wine. 300809

Bottle with thanks to kp (I think). Pours a dingy amber with a little bit of head and aromas of spice (cloves and bananas) and honey. Flavo adds a nice pear and light fruit presence which plays well against the spices and honey. There is a little bit of a metal/bandaid presence at times which holds this back from true excellence. Nice alcoholic warmth helps this finish well, though.

Bottle: A pale golden and orange pour with a light haze and no head. Smells sweet and floral. An odd sweetness; must be the honey. Tastes fruity and floral with more of that honey sweetness. Rather dry and even a twinge soapy. Not really that good. Thanks to colemgm8 for sending this intriguing brew; I’m glad to have tried it.

For the life of me I cannot remember how I got this bottle. It must have been a trade and probably during the time RB was down. It may have even been from BA, but damn, I have no record of who gave this to me. Nameless trader, I thank you. Shared at Indra’s Strong Ale gathering. 22oz bottle that was fridged for a few months (I always intended on drinking this over that time but it never came to be). Poured into a snifter glass (that theisti would later break). It has a dark golden color, surprising to me, even for a wheat wine. It is definitely different, it may even be more of a braggot then a beer. Aroma is very floral honey with strong ester coming off the yeast. Or maybe the honey is just amplifying similar ester-like aromatics. Taste was similar with a mish mash of honey, sweetness, yeastiness, and floralness. Very cool, and nothing like I would expect, especially from Terrapin. It’s not heavy or boozy, the floral and sweetness seem to be able to cover that up. Easy drinking stuff, not something I would want to age. I recommend it and would drink it again for sure.

Bottle: Poured a slightly hazy deep copper color ale with a rather large foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of honey and deep wheat malt is quite enjoyable. Taste is a nice mix between some sweet wheat malt with traces of honey without being excessively sweet in a gross way. Full body with good carbonation and alcohol is very well hidden. Way too easy to drink but still showing some great complexity. August 2011 - I drank this again thinking I had never had this before and it is still very smooth drinking thought a bit soft on carbonation.

22 oz bottle provided by beastiefan2k. Pour is hazed golden, thin to no white head. Aroma of dirt, some wheat, light sugar and citrus. Bazooka bubblegum, in the nose, certainly Hefe yeast. Taste is like a big Hefe, with the wheat, sugar-honey, and cloves. Finish was pretty cloying and sticky. I have had a number of wheat wines, and none of them bare any relation to each other. Odd.

Bottle on 11/29/2008 with Kinz. Somewhat hazy copper body with a small frothy white head. Big wheat aroma, some light banana notes, a bit of honey and some alcohol. More wheat, light banana hints, light caramel and honey, and some alcohol in the background. Medium full body with moderately low carbonation and alcohol warming.
