Malt and hops are beautifully married in this full-bodied, copper-red Pale Ale. Red Seal is generously hopped for a long, spicy finish. An excellent accompaniment to grilled meats and rich sauces.

Bottle from a branch of Total wine in Sterling, Virginia. Deep amber in colour, with moderate carbonation. Light, citrus hops, rich, slightly toasty malts, red berry sweetness, caramel richness and lingering, dryish finish. Good.

0.33 l bottle from Pivoteka, Zagreb. Big tasting! Clear golden, small off-white head. Fruity, malty, honey. Dry. Light body, moderate carbonation, light finish. Something wrong.

From old tasting notes. Labeled as Ruedrich’s Red Seal Ale. Hazy Amber orange color. Big bubbly tan head. Mildly spicy hop aroma.msubtle fruity malt flavor that is complex without being overdone. Nice dry finish. Very flavorful.

An APA from North Coast, bought at De Caigny, though based on the name, I was actually expecting a red IPA... Anyway: tightly ’paper’ lacing, egg-white, dense and moussy head, remaining closed for a long time over an initially cristal clear, beautifully very pure amber coloured beer with deep orange hue. Dank and elegantly spicy aroma of wet cigarette tobacco, olive oil, pine resin, warm biscuit, toasted bread in the morning, dry grapefruit zest, marihuana, beech bark, barbecue spices, paprika, freshly cut red bell peppers, dried wormwood leaves, tonic water, roasted pine nuts. Clean onset, some sbuduedly sweetish dried mango, green banana and unripe nectarine notes surrounded by a dim, generic sourishness and a vague green olive-like umami touch, medium carbonation with minerally effects, supple, slick and oily mouthfeel. Nice biscuity malt sweetishness deep below, quickly gaining a nutty and mildly toasted edge, matching with the increasing spicy, leafy and ’dried citrus peel’-like, bit resiny hop bitterness, releasing piney and restrainedly grapefruity aromas retronasally; long hop bitter finish but not overly aromatic and leaving enough room for the soft biscuity malt sweetness to pass through, this indeed finishes like any decent American style pale ale should. To the point, nothing extreme going on here from an American craft beer perspective, but classy and noble, like all of North Coast’s products; this brewery may seem a bit obsolete in view of everything that happened after its foundation in 1988, when only two hundred breweries were active in the entire United States, but they still deliver state-of-the-art examples of - now - classic American styles; this is a brewery whose beers I would recommend to any upcoming European beer afficionado as an initiation to American beer culture, the cradle of the current global craft beer movement. Decent, thoroughly enjoyable, quenching, adequately showcasing American hoppiness without overdoing it and merging into IPA territory: this may not be the most exciting APA around, but it is as exemplary as it gets.

Tap at SF Beer Week Opening Gala. Takes a minute to settle, almost exclusively foam. Turns clear golden. Aroma: Some hops, rather malty. Super soft and smooth, medium body, almost no aroma, but it doesn’t need it. Still good, just because of the texture. An interesting brew for sure.

4 oz pour on nitro at Spacebar. Clear golden amber with beige head. Aromas of malt, light citrus. Tastes of citrus, biscuit, honey, malt. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Somewhat watery mouthfeel. Feel like this would probably be better not on nitro.

Punertavan/oranssinruskea, suhteellisen kirkas olut vaahtoaa keskiverrosti ja jättää jälkeensä pientä pitsiä. Kiva pieni vaahtoreunus jää lisäksi juoman reunaan koko nauttimisen ajaksi. Tuoksu on varsin houkutteleva, pääasiassa hedelmäinen. Maussa on makeaa mallasta ja hedelmäisyyttä, jälkimaussa taas katkeruutta joka kruunaa kokonaisuuden. Erittäin hienoa tavaraa ja kaikki hyvin balanssissa.
