Tap at the brewery tap in Kobe. Light amber colour with small white head. Aroma is smoke and sweetness. Usual bacon smell but maybe with some kind of honey glaze or something like that. Quite biscuit malty under the smoke. Taste is sweet, bit of honey and the bitterness of the smoke. Bit oily. Bit of an underwhelming finish.

On tap at Rokko Garden in Kobe. Now this was more like it~! It poured a nice amber brown with a thick head of foam. The aroma was a very mild smokiness at malt sweetness at first which became more pronounced as the beer warmed up from the frigid serving temperatures. It was ridiculously easy to drink with a nice malt, caramel roasty smoke finish once it warmed up I got more smoke and some notes of bacon too. It was great from start to finish! Fujizakura’s is better but this is a very nice beer. I think Rokko’s gotten better than they were 3-4 years ago and they’re making a wider range of beers these days (8 kinds) which is great but they play it a bit safe as they don’t want to scare Japanese people who aren’t used to flavorful beers I think.

Hyogo Oktoberfest, October 18, 2009. Pale amber color. Fruity, ale-like aroma with light smoke and honey. Nicely smoky flavor-lightish but enough, with honey, good malt, slight fruit. Well-balanced and tasty.
