Our Big Eye IPA is a big hoppy brew, thanks to the abundance of American Columbus and Centennial varieties we use to flavor and dry hop. While the English originally added extra hops to preserve their beers for sea travel, we do it for the love of all that bold, intense flavor that makes India Pale Ale one of our favorite styles.

Hazy orange color with a nice fine white head. Some floatees in there. Aroma is lots of grapefruits and pine needles, resinous, but the taste kicks off with lots of toasty malts, pine needles, mild earthiness, more warming malts in the back, sorta English indeed. Oily mouthfeel, quite nice and heavy, not so clean, not to be expected from a West Coast Brewery! Still the pines are very strong here.

355ml bottle into glass. Great inviting smoky hoppy nose. Hazy bronze beer with two finger white head. Light carbonation. Slight oily texture, a little zingy on the tongue. Finish starts with pine which lingers but a fruit salad note slowly shines through. Another fantastic IPA that you want to drink all afternoon then you realise it’s 7%! Brilliant, moreish.

Can from Tokyu Foodshow in Shibuya. Drank straight from the can on the train home. Nice big aromas of citrus and pine resin. Hop-forward taste with strong bitterness but still has the malt present to balance it out fairly well. Solid IPA. --- Beer merged from original tick of Big Eye on 23 Jun 2015 at 22:20 - Score: 7

Tap - shows dark caramel brown with dark honey tones and a finger of clean white foam. The nose shows sweet tropical fruit and very faint pine resin notes. The palate shows much of the same with a low carbonation. Very fruit forward in flavor but balanced by a clean IPA bitterness. A good summer beer.

355 ml, bottled 17/12/14, from Bier-Deluxe.de
Copper, clear body, with a big, creamy, lacing, off-white head.
Aroma of grapefruit, pine, orange, pineapple, peach, biscuit.
Tastes of grapefruit, lots of pine, orange, peach, biscuit, some tea.
Quite full, creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes bitter, quite dry, piney, zesty, fruity, a bit sweet malty.
Tasty! Very hoppy, piney and bitter, but greatly balanced by a smooth, sweet malt backbone. Full and intense, but also quite easy at the same time. Overall not as extraordinary as the two Sculpins, but a highly enjoyable IPA nonetheless.
