Pours an Pepsi / amber like like color, a nice hearty scent and nice foam on the swirl fruit and sweet malt in the taste... a nice bit of hops to tie it all together, a very easy going brown ale...tasty

The various varieties of saranac have always been an easily attainable beer. I remember before I was a taster, I had sampled many types of saranac. 12 oz brown bottle. Aroma of saranac, beer that is, but not overly strong. Pours clear dark brown in my steeler stein. I have abita turbo, bells & stoudts winter to compare this to. At first the flavor is roasty with some hints of maltyness. No tons of carbonation, in fact barely any tingle on my tongue. Finish is not bad at first, but then fades into lingering with a medium bitter hoopyness.

Very typical brown ale character - hints of dry roast and chocolate, but this one is interesting in that it has a familiar citric/grapefruit hop aroma and flavor. Cascade? Not certain, but I’d bet $20 it is.

Next stop on the Saranac 12 beers of winter mix pack. Again, these beers do bring some sort of joy to me. Beer pours with a medium sized head, brown color with some ruby tints. Head fades to a decent lacing. Aroma is full and very present, as everyone says actually surprising. I’ll put it this way, the great hop aroma of this brown ale surpasses the hop aroma of their IPA. Its definitely full of cascade, which i rather enjoy. Some roasty chocolate faintly present in aroma and taste. Its rather strong for a brown ale. I actually like what Saranac did, they threw in some strong (well 6% is strong for them) into this mix pack. They made a smoke and a prettty hoppy brown ale. Overall doing a good job. Now back to the point. It has that rather empty and watery body that trademarks all the Saranac beers. Leaves a nice hoppy and moderately bitter aftertaste. As it warms the chocolate becomes more noticable adding a nice sweetness to the entire package.
