A higher gravity seasonal version of the year-round Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale. It’s made with Westmalle Trappist yeast that creates those curious phenolic off-flavors that are freakin’ everyone out these days. Massively dosed with boatloads of wheat and pale malt and finishes with a big, hoppy ending.

Bottle at Brewdog Camden. It pours clear light orange, with a decent white head. The nose is sweet orange, Belgian yeast, some funk, hay and straw. The taste is sweet orange, tangerine, spice, farmhouse white bread, estery pear, peach, hay and straw, with bitterness in the finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Nice.

Thank god! Over the years I have hit periods where I get a little bored with beer, mainly because there’s nothing new coming along to excite me. And then there’s always been something to wake me up and say "hey, there’s more out there". But after so many years of rating, I was starting to wonder whether it was still possible. A Belgian IPA, if you want to call this that, is hardly a new idea but this beer succeeds in a way that I have yet found. Its not really the best beer ever but the combination of bright floral and citrus hops with the fruity orange peel citrus of the Westmalle yeast makes for one funky fruity and unique beer. The aroma is mostly orange candy, flowers, a good bit dang, with just a hint of phenols. Flavor is citrus, peachy, balanced finish, soft carbonation and medium palate. Nice true amber color with a good foaming head and heavy sheets of lace. I drank an entire 12oz before looking at the description and realizing the strength. This has a *much* lighter body and is much easier drinking than other beers of this strength.

12 oz bottle from Safeway Salinas. Nose is grapefruit, pine, grass, banana, and a hint of bubblegum. Clear yellow with a medium pale yellow head. Flavor is lots of bitterness, banana, a bit of cani sugar, and a bitter finish.

Amber with a small white head. Fruity aroma of citrus hops with caramel and tea notes. Sweet caramel flavour with fruity hops, a touch of alcohol and a good bitter finish. This is pure classic Lagunitas, and a bit lower on the complexishness than I might have expected.

Hazy light amber,lasting beige head.Nose of citrus,spice,orange peel.Spicy yeast profile,huge malt backbone.Big hop finish,light alcohol heat.Complex , a quality beer.Despite being a well made beer, and rating it highly, I don’t care for it, not one of my favorite styles.

Bottle from Whole Foods Market Bowery, New York, NY. A golden/orange coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, tropical fruit aroma. Tastes hoppy, malty, tropical fruit, slight sweetness. Beautifully complex, another cracker from Lagunitas.

Clear golden beer, creamy off-white head, unstable, adhesive with nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: sweet peaches, some yoghurt, bit of pineapple. MF: good carbon, full body. Taste: very fruity start with peaches and sweet mango, passion fruits, lemon. Aftertaste: grapefruit, citrus hops, bitter herbal dry ending.

Potent yet drinkable, Little Sumpin’ Wild could prove prophetic if consumed without care. This year’s model clocks in at 9.4% ABV, after all, yet the alcohol is carefully hidden away, peeking out only occasionally amongst the spicy wheat and citrus-laden hop bitterness. The IPA-dom is tuned down slightly for this model Sumpin’, not as bitter as it is yeasty and Belgian, with a subtle sweetness that underlies everything with gentle hippie love. Good beer.

Bottle @ Kihoshk, Copenhagen. Pours cloudy orange with a lasting white head and lacings. Nose is Belgium yeast, vague spice,and US hops. Smooth and full bodied. Flavor adds a little bit of vanilla. Tasty with a fine dose of fresh hops. A bit of warmth.
