There’s a place just south they call Frog’s Hollow, brewin’ pumpkin ale in Fall, and they only speak in whispers of the name. There’s a lady they say who has the secret, of spices picked just right. With a crying shout, she’ll knock it out, and hand you the Frog’s delight.

Orange amber color with a vegetable and allspice aroma. Nice moderately spiced pumpkin pie flavor, leans to a more vegetable taste than the spices. Mild alcohol burn at the finish.

Can from Total Wine & More, San Antonio. Clear amber, thinning tan head. Aroma of pumpkin & apple pie, plum jam, raisin, cinnamon, clove, butterscotch. Taste has sweet plum & apple in a biscuity, cake-like, bit caramelly malt body with allspice notes. Herbal & peppery hoppy finish; lingering spices, pumpkin and warming liqueur-like alcohol. Full body, oily texture, average carbonation. Overall sweet in spiciness.

I mean, it’s a pumpkin beer, so you have to put up with the egregious overspicing, but it dries up nicely on the finish, and it’s fairly boozy, so I’ll be lenient.

On tap at Hoppin' Frog, pours a cloudy dark orange with a tiny white head. Aroma brings out plenty of pumpkin spice, especially nutmeg, with a bit of pumpkin pure in the back. Flavour is fairly dry and quite spicy, with lots of nutmeg and cinnamon, followed by pumpkin pure. Not all that complex or bold for an amplified pumpkin ale. It's drinkable but not much more.

Light amber color. Cloves, cinnamon, pumpkin pie in the nose. Malty, tons of spice. Nice spiciness in the finish. Palate is a bit thin and dry but decent.
