Bottle from Yamaoka. Daigo Beer Helles 5% brewed at the end of February 2015, drunk in December. Deep orange-gold pour with a fizzy off-white head. Fruity/floral hop bouquet with a nice biscuity malt aroma. The taste is crisp buscuit, honey, herbal spicy noble hops. Really nice, after seeing the low ratings online I wasn’t expecting much so getting this clean crisp helles was a good surprise.

Keg at the brewery in Daigo, Ibaraki, Japan. This brewery is in a very scenic location and looked splendid with the autumn colours against the blue sky. A golden coloured pour with a small white head on top. Malty, fruity aroma. Tastes malty, fruity, hoppy, slight sweetness. Not overly complex but still drinkable on this warm autumn day in the mountains.

Bottle. Also called Yamizo ni mori Helles. Very fruity, slightly buttery aroma, lemon, biscuits, rich malt. Deep, slightly dark gold color, quickly fading head that goes to a thin lace. Very malty flavor, rich and rather sweet, alcohol seems present, as does something medicinal. Fruity, with good bitter hop balance. Can’t tell why I taste alcohol though. Decent, with rich malt and nice fruit, and a decent balance as well, although the medicinal taste and alcohol burn are strange and take away from what started as a much better beer.
