Tap at Bankan. Dark red brown colour, very small golden head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, some caramel sweetness. Taste is bit chocolately, roast again, touch of fruitiness, even bit porter like, sweetness. Chocolate is toned down quite a bit. Decent body. Nice.

Definitely one of the best Japanese dark beers I've had, and certainly the best doppelbock. Super balanced, tho a tad dry.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Deep dark malt aroma with chocolate, caramel. Sweet yet well roasted. Deep black with red and orange traces. Smaller head than expected. Rich chocolatey malt flavor. Sweet and just a tad cloying but good roasted character and alcohol make it work. A touch of fruity tart flavor as well. Maybe too sour? Thick, rich body helps, very smooth. Well done Xmas beer.

@ GJBF 2007. Thin brown body. Aroma of sweet malts, cocoa, molasses, and milk. Flavor is bittersweet cocoa, molasses, toasted malts, light fruit tones. A pretty solid dopplebock.

Clear brown color. Toffee, caramel and milk chocolate are all ocer the nose. Very odd nose of fresh cherry blossoms, blood oranges, cherries, milk chocolate, but slightly sour. However, it got much better as it warmed up. Smooth toffeeish finish. The sourness destracts from what is otherwise a good beer.
