Can, July 2007. Very light amber with a strong light orange tint. Looks thin. High, fine, white head. Aroma of amber malt, not very strong. Slightly sweet. Flavor of amber malt, yeast, and a touch of barnyard, though much more like a Belgian than the biere de garde I had in France. A very nice, strong, roasted malt, hay, and hops finish. The finish is the most impressive part. This is a nice, dry beer, with a good bit of the earthy taste I am used to in the type. A bit lighter than I remember the style, and a good deal more bitter in the finish as well. An excellent beer.

Can. The first time I had this I was on a train to Yokohama but was had rated too many beers earlier that night to really get a good grip on what this was really like. The copper color with thick off-white head is a good start. Herbal, bread, yeast, and citrus orange aroma. Mouth is medium, with soft carbonation. Yeast, light citrus, biscuit, and sweet herbs makes for a pleasant flavor. A well made, enjoyable, and surprising biere de garde.

I haven’t tried this in a can yet, but I heard the tap version is better. Deep golden color, horse blanket, raspberries, milk chocolate and oranges in the nose. Sweet malty mouth, raspberries, oranges, earth, horse blanket. Finishes a bit yeasty with some cherries. Perhaps my favorite Ya Ho beer.
