We love beasts of lore. Unicorns, Dragons, and untold combinations therein. When it came time to name our epic Russian Imperial Stout, it only made sense for an epic fantasy beast to become the namesake. Thus was born the Blaecorn Unidragon: part Black Unicorn, part Soul Dragon, and the ultimate mythical beast. This rich and complex brew was designed to improve with age, with aggressive hops and an intense dark malt bill that fill this Russian Imperial Stout with intense flavors and a full body.

Bomber courtesy of rlgk. Pours pitch black with creamy chocolate brown head that quickly dissipates while leaving lots of trace on the glass. Smell is sweet with heavily roasted malts, molasses, liquorice fudge, prunes, raisins, pumpernickel, orange peal, alcohol, coffee, cocoa and hints of pine. Taste is sweet and bitter with cereal, roasted malts, salty liquorice, gunpowder, pumpernickel, pine, dark roast coffee, bitter chocolate, burnt wood, prunes, raisins, detergent and grass. Mouthfeel is oily bitter, tiny tart and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with heavily roasted malts, bitter chocolate, dark roast coffee and prunes. Slightly unbalanced.Re-rate! Bomber courtesy of Marsiblursi. Blind tasting! I was an idiot rating this the first time, or more likely experienced a bad bottle. Lovely balanced roast with the regular coffee and chocolate imperial stout goodness. No trace of the weird off scent and flavor from last time.

Post CBC hangover in the Hotel and - ’Oh crap I have bought too many bottles again!’ . Opaque black beer, good tan head. Palate is soft and viscous. Fine carbonation. Rich dark malts, a little salty. Not too much coffee or chocolate here but there are well buried red berry fruits. Warming dry finish. A bit too salty to be great.

Served on draft at Timberwood Grill, Charlottesville, VA, 5/7/12. Pours a dark brown color with a thin creamy head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, tobacco, chocolate and an astringent finish. The taste is roasted malts, tobacco, chocolate and leafy notes. Chewy texture, full bodied. Nice impy stout.

Bomber from Half time. Pours black with a large creamy/bubbly dark tan head. Aroma is very smooth roast dark malt with hints of coffee and chocolate. Unusually there seems to be detectable hop. Type uncertain. Maybe resin. Full bodied and more. Flavor is very many things. Complex isn’t in it. There’s chocolate, coffee, vanilla, resin, really burnt and smooth malt. It’s like chewing food. Finishes all those flavors and more. Amazing stuff.

Coffee, unmalted roasted barley, horehound and potting soil on the nose. Black pour, thick beige head, good lacing. Dirty coffee flavor with prune accents. The soil notes are very prominent both on the nose and palate. Plum skins and burned toast in the finish. Delightfully creamy mouthfeel, but a little hot. Then again, this is a 12.5% beer we’re talking about. Rustic and dirty it has a lot of character. It grows on you and I have uprated it twice during the course of rating it. I’m contemplating uprating one more time. Kudos!

So finally I get to rate a notorious clown shoe, hehe. Big black impressive pour from a tap. Nice friendly roasty aroma without much volatile fumes comes across nicely on the olfactory. This hides the clowns impact for on the taste buds it knocks your head back, big rude rototilling thing baby. Nasty nellie fer sure. Some co2 but it never lets you forget what this beer is all about, right on style, not too enjoyable for a lager loving girlie taste bud. In my glass it looks like used gasoline laced 60W harley oil.
