Bottle from KBL. Nose is maple, chocolate, baum kuchen. Sweet and pastry-like flavor with chocolate and nuts and a spicy finish. Body is a bit too thin. Interesting.

Medium brown color. Excellent chocolate, bready, Hazelnut character. Slightly strong. Slight boozy and warming but very nice. Pretty surprised how this came out. It is towards a Baltic porter.

I picked up a bottle of Two Rabbits Baum Porter 5.5% made with Club Harie’s Baumkuchen ends so I also got some Club Harie baumkuchen for a small pairing. Deep brown verging on black with a fizzy tan head that dissipates fast. The aroma toasty, grainy caramel. It kind of reminds of malty English ales I had back in the day. Quite full bodied with a prickly carbonation. The taste is sweet toasty caramel with nuttiness in the finish/aftertaste though with that flavor profile the dry finish kind of throws me for a loop. Paired with the soft moist buttery sugar-glazed baumkuchen you get more of the toasty malts, some bitter roasted elements and much less sweetness from the beer. Though you still get a nice nutty flavor in the finish. This was a fun pairing well worth doing, especially if you like baumkuchen.
