Previously Dantalion) Darken is our demonically named sour ale based on the Oud Bruin beer style. Medium brown in color, Darken has hints of chocolate, Munich malts, and rye. We also incorporate a spice blend containing ginger, coriander, star anise, grains of paradise, and black pepper to create a gentle halo of spice character. The beer is fermented on the same selection of yeasts and microbes as our base lambic, and aged for up to 8 months or more in white oak barrels.

Bottle from Shrubber85. 2014 vintage. Dark, reddish pour, relatively flat. Sour notes in the aroma, pit fruit. Taste is tart, fruity and smooth. This has aged very well. Thanks Roger for the bottle!

Draught, 1/3 pint. Tasted on the 18/04/2019 at Brewdog Leeds, (Leeds, England). Murky brown colour with a medium tan head. Aroma is cherry wine, ginger and licorice. Taste is intense cherry wine, wood barrels and some ginger. Reminds me a cherry wine. Tart, vinous and cherry finish. Next one please!

Keg at BrewDog Tower Hill. Didn't really get the aromas as per the blurb, more a car crash of spice and leather. Very dark brown with a ruby tint. Was going to describe it as murky but that would be harsh. Bubbly light beige head just clings to the insides of the glass. Initially lacks impact. Get some vague bitterness/sourness. However once I start to swallow the sourness kicks in. Grainy vinous - makes me think of pumpernickel. Light-medium bodied. Quite creamy. Low key average carbonation. Long dry astringent finish. The boozey warmth lingers. Hmm. It's fine but just doesn't clearly too complex for me as it's just not hitting the marks for me.

Keg at BD Union Square. It pours deep/dark with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet - sour, juicy, tangy, bramble, cherry, jammy fruits, liquorice, light vanilla and wood. The taste is crisp, dry, tart, touch of acidity, sour cherry, cranberry, raspberry, bramble, jammy, granny smith apple, zingy, wood, spice, touch of marzipan kicking about and some alcohol with a dry, musty finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Interesting and flavourful. Fun stuff.
