Sampled on draft at 3R6P this beer poured a dark orange-amber color with a medium sized foamy yellow-white head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was strong pine and resin with a tangy undertone. The flavor was bitter with a strong alcohol presence and fairly strong though rough pine, resin, black pepper, hot pepper, catbox, cardboard, yeast and a sour almost toffee undertone. Very long harsh and bitter finish of alcohol, pine, resin and pepper. Thick and full bodied. Ok.

Bottle - 08/27/2013 date. Pours hazy orange, large orange-beige head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is light, notes of pine, citrus and grapefruit. Flavor is the same, light sweet and medium bitter, resinous and dank. Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Nice beer, but I am afraid that the tropical notes have faded in the six weeks in bottle. ABV extremely well hidden.

On draught at Petrol Station. The beer is a dark orange-gold color with a medium white head that diminishes gradually. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is fruity with hops and pine notes. Full, chewy body with flavors of piney hops, tropical fruit and toasted malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a lingering hoppy aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Tap at the Haymarket Brewpub, Chicago. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin off white head and bags of lace. The aroma is dry yeast and malty hop. The flavour is strong bitter with a big liqourice malt alcohol palate. The boozy alcohol is starting to dominate and I didn’t like that so much. This one is nice in small quantities.

color is a very cloudy orange. Creamy sticky lacing on the glass. Very nice nose. Lots of pineapple and passionfruit. The taste is quite interesting. Sure, it’s a big boozy beer but you get very little sweetness. The fruitiness of those NZ hops shines in a huge way and makes way for a juice bomb with bitterness that’s sort of mineral like and the juicyness finally fades away and leaves an astringent bitterness.

On tap @ Fire Works, Arlington, VA. Pours slughtly hazy amber with small but stable off-white head. Intense hoppy flavour with notes of malt and alcohol. A massive attack of hops with fruity, citric, metallic and boozy notes. A difficult thing to rate as the flavour is quite a cacophony, if a pleasant one. Very bitter aftertaste. OK, enjoyable but not as balanced as I had hoped it would be.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 1/10/2014. Pours moderately cloudy orange amber color with a 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of huge mango, passion fruit, pineapple, tangerine, peach, lemon zest, orange rind, floral, grass, pine, light caramel, and floral earthiness. Fantastic aromas with great complexity of tropical/citrus hop notes with a fair amount of malt balance; and great strength. Taste of mango, peach, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange rind, floral, pine, light caramel, and floral earthiness. Good amount of earthy floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of mango, peach, tangerine, pineapple, lemon zest, orange rind, floral, pine, light caramel, and floral earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity of citrus/tropical hop flavors with a fair amount of malt balance; and no cloying bitterness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a lightly slick, crisp, and very sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent DIPA! All around great complexity of citrus/tropical hop flavors with a fair amount of malt balance; and quite smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

12oz bottle. Filtered orange-tan. Thin, frothy white head. Mellow, somewhat muted aroma...mild citrus. Not quite as exotic as some of the recent Australian and New Zealand hop beers, but still a pretty solid offering. Clean, easy going toasty golden malt backbone somehow...steady, bitter grapefruit and citrus rind hop tones. Bitter finish. Surprisingly drinkable, a really pleasant IIPA. No off tones, well executed, solid stuff.

Draft at Churchkey. Poured a very nice looking amber/orange color with a nice white head. Aroma was resin, pine, onions. Flavor was bitter notes of hops, citrus. lots of pine resins, and a bunch of onion notes on this one. Boozy. I was perfectly fine with the 4 ounces I got of this one. I thought I’d really like this one, especially after previous Green Flash successes.
