Bottle from Yamaoka. Nishijin Bakushu Yuzu-Muge IPA 6% A clear orange-copper color with very little head. Apparently, this is a new brewery in the North Kyoto area near Yamaoka that has a social-welfare component to give jobs and raise money for autism. The nose is huge Yuzu zest, some biscuit and butterscotch diacetyl. Medium to full bodied with a bitter butterscotch and Yuzu flavor. It’s an ok first effort and I applaud the cause but the beer needs more work. I think these guys may have a taproom in which case I’ll try to check it out this year... ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from the brewery, 2026. bronze-orange color, slight hazy, low to medium head. Light yuzu in the nose, not huge, some bready malt and citrus. Nose is slightly faint. Bready malt with light caramel, yuzu, medium sweetness, nice bitter finish. The flavor is quite complex and well balanced. The malt character is excellent, and the finish is crisp and long. Much improved from that first batch!
Tap at Komachi, Oct. 2017. Yuzu nose, creamy, biscuity malt. Slightly lactic. Tons of yuzu in the flavor, a bit of biscuity sweetness bit of astringency from the fruit. Bitter, spicy finish. Not too bad for a start. Deep orange-amber color. (6.3)
